Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThis project comprises of three main branches that are Web Application, Smart Energy Meter and Hybrid application software.Firstly,Website will act as a control centre of Smart Energy Meter which will contain some differenet types of functions like Power enabling and disabling, Consumer data such as Present and Past billing etc and sorting out consumers complaints etc. Secondly, Smart energy meter will be developed through Raspberry Pi and Capable of monitoring real time data and can be displayed on energy meter LCD , Website and Application Software. Different types of sensors will be interfaced with the Raspberry Pi in order to monitor data, prevention from power theft and RFID or NFC sensor for Prepaid meter cash deposit.Thirdly, Application software will be develop to provide support and comfort to consumers. Application software can be login via meter ID or QR code.Consumers will be capable of monitoring their electricity usage or observe parameters.Consumers will also be able to observe their daily or monthly load curves.
Project Objectives-
To develop an IOT based smart prepaid energy meter which is capable of monitoring power consumed and displays the real time data (Powers, Energy, Voltage, Current etc).

Hybrid application for consumers will be capable of displaying numerical and graphical data i.e. one way communication.All billing calculation will be displayed on hybrid application software.

Hybrid application will be accessed via login ID and QR code i.e. displayed on the energy meter.

A Website as a Control centre of energy meter can be capable of displaying and updating data (Cost etc) i.e. Two way communication.

Other features of App such as Historical Data of Bills and power or unit consumption,Remaining balance and alerts for recharging, Billing Calculations at On-peak time and off-Peak time, automatic power cut-off in case of dues.

Complaint can be recorded via APP and will be conveyed to control centre.

Alert message at the control centre will be conveyed in case of power theft and tampering with meter.
This project comprises of three main branches.At first hardware of energy meter will be developed through Raspberry Pi 3B by interfacing different types of sensors such as current, voltage RFID or NFC etc in order to dertmine real time parameters like voltage, current, different types of powers, energy consumed and remaining etc.These parameters will be displayed via LCD interfaced with Raspberry Pi 3B. Payment will be deposited through the RFID or NFC sensors. The above implementation and execution will be based upon python code where formulae for all parameters and cost for each energy unit will inserted.Python Code will work according to the real time input data. Buit in WiFi module of Raspberry Pi 3B or ESP 8266 will be used tor transfer data via Internet to the designated server. Through the server data will be imported to the Apllication software as well as Website.
Secondly, Application software will be developed through Java or Python. Data base will also be interfaced with an application software in order to keep record of the consumer.
Lastly, website will be developed. Website can be accessed by the concerned authority that is in need to change the data from the smart energy meter. Data base will also be interfaced with an web application in order to keep record of the consumer.
Benefits of the ProjectSmart energy meter can create a huge difference in energy generation because energy consumption can be estimated.Saving electricity will also help with reduction of load shedding.
It will become very easy to track consumption on a daily and monthly basis. The notion of becoming aware of one’s own usage is key here. Research has shown that energy awareness results in behavior changes which typically saves around 15% of your monthly energy consumption.

This prepaid smart energy meter will be very helpful and supportive for the consumers because consumer are in control of how much I use and I buy it before I use it.
Power thefting can be controlled through prepaid billing.
You can easily avoid accumulating a debt for your electric usage,
This project enables to develop a reliable measuing and paying methods.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThis project seems to be very valueable and gamechanger in the current system of measuring power consumption of an individual consumer. This project can be the replacement of conventional energy meters.This project i.e. smart ways of calculating power can enhance the consumer satisfaction and it can be helpful in energy conservation.This project can be developed for the three phase Residential as well as for Commercial consumers.For the above revolutions the python program can be change or redraw structure can make it as a dedicated system.This project has great technical importance because it is developed through the real emerging micro processor and micro controller i.e. Raspberry Pi. The purpose of using Raspberry Pi is its huge market and its hugh efficiency,reliability,quality, speed and multi tasking etc.
