Project Summary

The IoT-based Smart Drink Dispenser (iSDD) is a system that can be used for dispensing water, soft drinks, tea, coffee, etc., at various work and commercial places. The present drink dispenser, which features numerous waters tap styles, has been in place for many years. The existing drink dispensers are facing common problems such as button operated, wastage of drink in the case of overflow or no glass/container case, tap malfunction, etc. Further, from the health perspective, people may forget to drink enough water due to the everyday rush in places like office environments which can cause deficiency and can negatively influence their mental and physical health. So, it is important to keep track of how much water is consumed daily. To address these issues, a smart drink dispenser system using IoT is proposed. The main components of the system are a smart drink dispenser, a web app, and a mobile application. The system will provide choice-based dispense, and multiple options for connectivity with dispenser e.g., using a mobile phone, RFID, Bluetooth, or keypad. It will provide consumption monitoring for health-conscious persons as well as can set up water drinking profiles with reminders and notifications. The system can also be used for beverages with pay-per-use plans. Data analytics can provide useful insights about beverages consumption as well as can be used to manage better supply chain.

Project Objectives

The project objectives for IoT-based Smart Drink Dispenser are written below, and these are major objectives of this project:

Key Objectives:

  • To provide the replacement of typical tap water and disposables water bottles by introducing this iSDD to people who are hygiene and health-conscious to track their drinking routine, and they will prefer this smart dispenser over normal dispenser at home.
  • To provide the cashless payment method for iSDD commercial deployments.
  • To provide multiple drinks along with water
  • To provide personalized usage histories to our users
  • To provide the accessibility of finding nearby dispensers and convenience

Project Implementation Method

The IoT-based Smart Drink Dispenser is the system that innovates the typical water and beverages dispensing machines by a combo of cashless concept and health monitoring, based on the usage of the person to make him hydrated, by giving reminders as well as showing the daily water drinking goal achievement to him so that a person stays tuned with his hydration concerns. 
These dispensers are deployable in public or commercial places where beverages and drinking water can be dispensed by authenticating the user account by iSDD card, or login by ID and PIN code at the dispenser, then on sufficient balance, it will dispense the user’s desired drink. The dispenser automatically counts the number of drinking water glasses and or beverages for the user and reminds them of the remaining daily liquid consumption. Also, this dispenser can be deployable in hospitals especially the dehydrated patients can be tracked with each glass of drinking water they drank and directly shows the data of each patient to their doctor whether he has drunk enough for today or not. On the other hand, if a user wants to make that dispenser available at home so that he can count every glass of water he drinks, he can purchase it for home, just purchase it and then get his health monitored on each glass he drinks from the first day of usage. The bottled water would be provided to him even before the bottle completely ends up, just gets the bottle without reminding or asking the company every time to provide water bottles, that sounds smart act.
As everyone knows that cashless has become the new normal and everyone relies on it too much in our everyday life, by sending and receiving money anyone anywhere with one click so the thing is no one needs to put the real cash in their pocket, a person can go barehanded anywhere and can get what he wants by paying virtually. The cashless feature in the dispensable drinks is a new concept in beverage vending machine category and would be highly adaptable by the people who are already using E-Wallets and Mobile Banking apps.

The beneficial scope of this project is defined in two parts one is cashless innovation in dispensable machines and the other is to track the drinking routine of its health-conscious users as a health app, it is a combination of both fintech and health.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This system will authenticate its users and record the consumption of each user on the basis of liquid consumed. The system will provide three ends for its users, which are Web App, Mobile App, and Dispenser itself. These ends will be able to authenticate the user. Only two ends (Web App and Mobile App) will support user registration, the Dispenser end will only support sign-ins via built-in keypad and smart card only. The hardware part of the system will have sensors that can be able to detect the utensil before pouring the liquid into it and it will generate a bottle refill request to the admin when the water level in the bottle decreases to 20%.

After successful completion of this project, the end user will get the mobile app, web app in software form and a software embedded dispenser (hardware).
