IOT based fair water distribution for smart city
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe population is migrating fast from rural areas to urban territories for better amenities and opportunities, resulting in a noticeable expansion in both, namely population as well as urban areas. This trend has been unavertable for ages putting a lot of pressure on natural assets like water. Unfortunately, water has been treated as a personal asset and pumped out from the ground without any check for personal use. The ground level is now depleting fast and has become a major concern in urban localities where people demand water supply in their houses without any hindrance. No doubt that there are global changes in climate that necessitate building more and more dams and large-scale water reservoirs, but this solution inherently is not achievable in a short period. The dams and water reservoirs once in place will raise the water level in the ground but this may take many decades of years. Some short-term solution is immediately needed. This project aims to implement monitoring and a controlling system to ensure a fair distribution of available water underground. An IoT-based system will collect the data using sensors on a real-time basis from the water storage tanks made in smart cities. The proposed system consists of different sensors like a water flow sensor, water level sensor, water pressure sensor, and an Arduino Mega(ATmega2560) as a core controller. The data received from the sensors is processed by a microcontroller and sent to the cloud via a wireless communication module(ESP8266-01). The data will be processed to the database through the server and will be utilized to check the undue use of water in the communities under the monitoring of this system.
Project ObjectivesTo Develop the IOT-based real-time fair water distribution system with the ability to monitor water usage for a smart city and check where ever the set restrictions are violated. Efforts will be made to sell the live model to smart cities of the countries.
Project Implementation MethodIn the beginning, the project will be implemented in private societies. We'll implement our system in a few blocks of society to check and monitor the capability and durability of our project, free of cost.
We'll monitor our system very closely on a daily basis and analyze the data received from the wifi on the Cloud. both hardware and software will go through strict testing for 3 months.
After testing, and analyzing both software and hardware, we'll make necessary adjustments if required. Then we'll be implementing it in different societies.
Benefits of the ProjectWater is the most important thing to survive on this planet. lt is our duty not to waste it and try to save it as much, as we can.
We'll get the following benefits from our project.
- Fair and real-time distribution of water
- Too much and unnecessary pumping of water is lowering the level of undersurface water, which a dangerous and alarming. With the help of this system, we can stop this kind of water wastage.
- Our system will be helpful to prevent water theft.
