Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryWe are designing a ATS (auto transfer switch) system for domestic generators as an add-on module.Our system will be capable of auto start/stop operation of generator,auto load transfer between main utility supply and generator,recording the critical parameters of generator(voltage,current,temperature,oil level,fuel level) and showing this data on the mobile application via internet.Generator will also be able to take decision smartly depending upon the values of parameters(high temperature shutdown etc).
Project ObjectivesFollowing are the objectives of the project:
- To design the ATS system as an add-on module so it can enhance the functionality of generator wihtout making it difficult to use.
- To provide the safety to its users from the hazards of manually switching the loads which can cause backfeed resulting in the damage of generator as well as wiring of the place it is being used at.
- To provide hassle free use of generator in the case of power failure.
- To increase the efficiency and life of the generator by monitoring its critical parameters.
The first stage of implementation is the literature review,followed by the research on the components which will be used.Based on this, the implementation will be as follows,
- Arduino is being used as the main controller along with ESP-01 module to communicate with internet.
- Two detection circuits are being used to detect the status of the uitlity supply and generator supply.
- Depending upon the availability of utlity supply,load will be transfered from utility to generator ad vice versa with the help of relays.
- Temperature sensor,current sensor,voltage sensor,fuel level sensor and oil level sensor will sense the corresponding values and send these values to mobile application.
- These parameters are constantly being monitored so that generator can be shutdown in case of any abnormality in the parameters.
