Project Title

Design and fabrication of multipurpose farming machine

Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject Summary

With agriculture facing a shortage of manpower, the need for automating the various activities in the field arises or it is becoming the need of the day. The scope of this project is to design and fabricate an agriculture machine that can be used for multiple purposes. Processes include Seeding, Rolling, Ploughing, and Fertilization. This machine eliminates the need for many workers and makes the work easier, economical, and efficient.

Project Objectives

As we all know that Pakistan is a developing country it continues to rely on hand tools for the foreseeable future cultivation. The use of hand tools for land cultivation is still predominant in Pakistan because tractors require resources that many farmers do not have easy access to. These smallholder farmers still continue to plant manually, the result of which is low productivity of the crops. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a low-cost planter that will reduce tedium and drudgery and enable smallholder farmers to produce more foods and also be environmentally friendly. So here we have come up with the idea of a multipurpose agriculture machine (MAC). MAC is a multipurpose agriculture machine. It is a semiautomatic machine that would be driven with the help of a motor and with minimal human efforts. The MAC would be performing the four major operations on the agricultural land.

1. It would be having a roller which would use for flattening land and breaking up large clumps of soil

2. a cultivator which would useful in plugging the soil which in this case would make some sort of opening in the soil

3. A seeding mechanism for the continuous dropping of seeds into the soil.

4. Fertilizer sprayer, so that fertilizer is added to soil to enhance the production of crops.

Project Implementation Method

Design of four (4) Processes: Rolling, Ploughing, Seeding, Fertilization spray

This design phase includes studying different mechanisms from versatile farming machines which can be used for designing and fabricating the agricultural device. After coming up with a reference design detailed design would be developed, tested, and then simulated in FEA and CFD software. Once it is verified that implemented mechanisms' behavior meets our requirement we will move to the next phase of design.

In the second phase of design, the calculation for required parameters would be performed. Computer-Aided Design Software will be used to create assemblies and subassemblies of the farming machine.

In the final phase of design FEA and CFD on multiple bodies and assemblies would be performed. It would allow us to understand whether bodies would be able to bear the load and withstand impact force. In not part would be redesigned and design iteration would be performed until the required weight and satisfactory results are achieved.

In manufacturing phase

1, Chasis would be fabricated

2, Subassemblies would be manufactured and tested

3, Farming device is to be assembled

4,  Composite body covering would be included for safety operation.

Benefits of the Project

Cost-saving as less labor is required and the different processes can be performed in a single operation.

Time-saving since the total time of making the land suitable for farming is reduced to the minimum.

Easy to operate and minimum maintenance requirement

Engine installation would ease further load on the farmer.
