Project Title

Internet of Things (IoT) Based Green Vehicular Exhaust System for Pollution Reduction

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

The main intention of the proposed project is to contribute to making a green and clean environment as pollution is a global challenge and vehicular smoke is a big factor in polluting the environment. An Internet of Things (IoT) Based Green Vehicular Exhaust System for Pollution Reduction is proposed by utilizing emerging technology to overcome vehicular smoke pollution. This project will enable the identification of the emission of the various pollutants and poisons in the green environment and values of these released pollutants can also be taken that are hazardous for the biotic environment. The proposed system comprises an embedded of sensors that can sense the presence of toxic gases emitted from the vehicle's exhaust of an internal combustion engine from silencers. The collected information is forwarded to the driver at his smart mobile on the smart app which notifies the level of various pollutants.  Simultaneously collected data transmitted at the cloud for further data analysis and for future decisions. The transfer of information to the cloud server is controlled by the Arduino Controller that is integrated into the vehicle. This system also monitors the information regarding the location of every automobile. Furthermore, the system provides information related to the history of oil changes, maintenance, and pollution level.

Project Objectives

The fundamental objective of the proposed project is to contribute to making the environment by monitoring and controlling vehicular engine combustion exhaust system which is a big smoke generating source.

Figure 01:Propose Architecture

Internet of Things (IoT) Based Green Vehicular Exhaust System for Pollution Reduction is to control pollution at least to an extent where avoiding the pollution completely is not possible now but can be controlled through technological achievements in the modern era. The second main objective of the project is to promote awareness among social groups and individuals.

Project Implementation Method

Hardware Specification

The Arduino Uno kit is integrated with smoke sensors in the vehicle that communicate and sense the smoke. The proposed system uses the following sensors

  1. MQ2 and MQ 4gas sensors that focus on the sensing Smoke
  2. Toxics gas detecting sensors to detect Carbon Monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.
  3. Sensors for Temperature control is RTD (Resistance temperature detector).
  4. GSM Module
  5. Smart Gateway for application installation.

Software Specification

Following application, programming languages used to implement the project.

  1. Google map to trace the location of the vehicle.
  2. Language: Python, C#
  3. Tool: visual studio
  4. Local Server
  5. Cloud Server
Benefits of the Project Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The proposed system will be a smart product and an Android application which will be installed in the vehicle exhaust system. Propose products will comprise of a kit Arduino, sensors that sense the proportion of different toxic gases that are emitted from the vehicle. The information detected is forwarded to the driver which notifies the level of various pollutants. In case of negligence of the driver, the same information will be transferred to the cloud server. The transfer of information to the cloud server is controlled by the Arduino Controller that is integrated into the vehicle. This system also monitors the information regarding the location of every automobile. Furthermore, the system provides information related to the history of vehicle maintenance such as oil, filter and exhaust system changes.
