Project Summary

The new technology of Augmented Reality offers many advantages for digital architectural design and construction fields. AR is also being considered as a new design approach for interior design. In an AR environment, the virtual furniture can be displayed and modified in real-time on the screen, allowing the user to have an interactive experience with the virtual furniture in a real-world environment. AR environment is exploited as the new working environment for users in architectural design works, and then they can do their work conveniently in AR environment. This project proposes a new method for applying AR technology to interior design work, where a user can view virtual furniture and communicate with 3D virtual furniture data using a dynamic and flexible user interface. Such systems allow people to see how the room will look with new furniture without actually buying or moving real furniture. All the properties of the virtual furniture can be adjusted using occlusion- based interaction method for a Tangible Augmented Reality.

Objectives to be achieved for the proposed project are given below:

• To enhance traditional catalog which only printed with 2D images. User just needs to download the application and install it in their device. Then play with the 3D virtual furniture in the house spaces

• To provide user a new interactive technology to be practice in interior design. It is so interesting to enhance perception of and interaction with the real world. Three types of gestures have been included in this application which is drag, pinch and rotation gesture.

• To produce realistic virtual furniture model in interior design. It gives the feeling of realistic. That is the 3D virtual furniture will look similar to the real furniture model. Therefore, by looking on the 3D virtual model that appears on the screen, user will have a feeling of realistic. And can decide which furniture is suit to their house.

• User is allowed to view the 3D virtual model of the furniture in real-time.

Project Implementation Method

3d models have been exported to unity 3d and those 3d objects can be placed on surface after detecting the plane(surface on which the object can be placed) using AR-Foundation API

You’ve been dreaming of turning your home into the coziest and most comfortable place on Earth. You’ve created several boards on Pinterest and got inspired every time you look at them. Then you finally buy a certain piece of furniture and bring it home. When you put this object in your room, you may become so sad realizing that you buy doesn’t suit the interior. The purpose of this system is to develop an android application call ‘AR Interior Designing with the use of Augmented Reality technology for design and decoration that will help customers visualize how the furniture pieces will look and fit in their homes or room and also can provide detail of products to support customer decision. This application will help us to find out the factors affecting the design and tracking of AR application.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

It will be an Android application that will let you chose between different furniture to place on your desire location to check whether it suits your room or not. You don't need to spend money or to buy real furnitures to see if it fits in your room or if it suits in the room according to your desire
