A stove is a necessary household item. We use them on a daily basis, but life can be dangerous if you are not practicing safety and caution while using a stove. Unattended cooking is a leading cause of fire related accidents taking place in homes around the world.
To tackle such issues we have many smart kitchen and smart stove kind of products available in the market. But these wide ranges are not affordable to every common person. We are designing the product which can easily deals with the traditional gas stoves and provides all the safety features that a smart kitchen could have.
We are designing a smart knob which can be attached with a traditional gas stove along with the mobile app through which you can remotely control the knob if you are far away from the stove. The app allows you to monitor the status of the stove and gives you the alerts accordingly.
The main focus is to design a knob with a universal design so that it can be attached to gas heater as well as water geezer.
There will be a gas detecting sensor which will detect the gas and turn the burners off to avoid accidental situations.
Project ObjectivesFollowing are the main goals of our project:
- Automatically turns off if detect gas:
The knobs automatically turn themselves off if they detect gas through the gas sensor unit.
- Child lock for the time period(controlled through app)
If you are not at home you can lock the knob through the mobile app. It will lock the knob and prevent the child to switch on the burner.
- Timer/alarm notification to check the gas
If you left something on the stove and you forgot to switch the stove off after the certain period of time. You will receive the alerts to switch the burner off. It will alarm you for the three times, if there is no response the knob will be off automatically.
- Remote monitoring of stove/knob
The app will allow you to monitor your stove remotely, whether you are in a separate room or 50 miles away from your home. You can check through the app that whether you have left the stove on by mistake and if so, you can turn it off remotely. You can also adjust the burner temperature accordingly.
Project Implementation MethodOur project comprises of total three unit i.e first is the sensing unit , used for the sensing of gass and various other sensing required in the project.
Second is the knob unit which is a mechanical motorized unit capable of achieving the objectives defined above.
The third unit is the android application through which we will be giving instruction to the knob and receiving information from the sensor.
Benefits of the ProjectFollowing are few of the benefits and advantages provided by the project.

Upon completion the project will consist of three main units i.e
- knob
- sensor
- application
The knob will be powered by a battery thus making it an wireless unit . It will provide variety of movement to the user via the application.
The sensor Unit will consist an arduino with a wifi module nd a gas sensor attached to it which will notify the user in case of any gas leakage via the application. It will also be a wireless unit powered by a battery.
The application will be based on android , providing the user a user friendly environment to ease the interaction with the hardwares.
