The main objective of this project is to develop a home automation system using an Arduino board with Bluetooth being remotely controlled by any Android OS smart phone. As technology is advancing so houses are also getting smarter. Modern houses are gradually shifting from conventional switches to centralized control system, involving remote controlled switches. Presently, conventional wall switches located in different parts of the house makes it difficult for the user to go near them to operate. Even more it becomes more difficult for the elderly or physically handicapped people to do so. Remote controlled home automation system provides a most modern solution with smart phones. In order to achieve this, a Bluetooth module is interfaced to the Arduino board at the receiver end while on the transmitter end, a GUI application on the cell phone sends ON/OFF commands to the receiver where loads are connected. By touching the specified location on the GUI, the loads can be turned ON/OFF remotely through this technology. The loads are operated by Arduino board through opto-isolators and thyristors using triacs.

Project Objectives

This project is to implement a low cost, reliable and scalable home automation system that can be used to remotely switch on or off the household appliance, using mobile application. The smart phone android application with user configuration GUI front end can be used for real-time scenario.

Project Implementation Method

waterfall is one of the simpler strategies to implement and is ideal for short, uncomplicated project. we follow waterfall model in our project to develop android application.

 Managing all of your home devices from mobile application. The convenience factor here is enormous. Being able to keep all of the technology in your home connected through one interface is a massive step forward for technology and home management.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

the result of the project should have two parts: hardware that is the thermostat and software in the form of and android app. The hardware portion of the project could also include ardunio mega,bluetooth module,wifi module,relays,connecting wires etc. The app should we develope by own using java language. deliverables for the project will be documentation of the entirety of the project, and a report completed as by specifications of the project requirement.
