Industrial waste heat is the energy that is generated in the industrial process and not used into any practical application and is wasted and dumped into the environment. As the heat can be utilized to generate electricity through different methods. One of the most suitable methods to generate electricity through waste heat is by using the steam turbine. A Steam turbine is a device that extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and converts it to mechanical work. The steam turbine is connected with a generator by an axel which in turn produces energy via a magnetic field that produces an electric current. In this project, the same phenomenon will take place to produce electricity in those industries where a very big amount of waste heat is available that can be utilized.
The main objective is to generate electricity by utilizing the waste heat.
Specific objectives are:
The main steps are design, fabrication and testing. The design involves the size and type of boiler, the flow rate of the steam, and size of the turbine and generator. The fabrication involves the selection of material and process. Once the setup is fabricated its performance will be tested.
A large amount of electricity can be generated in different industries where there is a large amount of waste heat is available i.e. Brick kiln and cement industry, this idea can be applied there easily.
