According to data obtained by the World Health Organization, the global pandemic of COVID-19 has severely impacted the world and has now infected more than eight million people worldwide. Wearing face masks and following safe social distancing are two of the enhanced safety protocols need to be followed in public places to prevent the spread of the virus. This system would be very useful in a shopping mall and restaurants where a special person is hired for this task.
To create a safe environment that contributes to public safety, we propose an efficient computer vision-based approach focused on the real-time automated monitoring of people to detect both safe social distancing and face masks in public places. In this proposed system modern deep learning algorithms are applied. This system is developed in python language.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to build a Desktop Application.  This project will be detect face masks and distance between people. Main aobjective of our project is to make ensure that people are following SOPs on public places like Hospitals and Colleges and other private and public places and other  buildings. 

Project Implementation Method

We will be capturing live video with an integrated camera and our project will read a frame from that live video and after reading the frame our model will identify the persons in that frame and will highlight them. After detecting a person our model will jump to the next process which is face detection. After detecting the faces out model will detect if that person is wearing a mask or not. If not, then the model will alert the person controlling this model and if he is wearing a mask our model will show that he is wearing a mask. And then it will go to the next process which is a distance measurement. As we have detected the persons already so it will mark the center of persons and then it will detect the distance between them and if the distance is according to the instruction it will show the result that distance is the same and if not then it will alert to the controlling this model.FDD methodology will be used.Feature-driven development(FDD) is an iterative and incremental software development process. It is a lightweight or Agile method for developing software.

For this project we will be using Python language, and  Library used for this project are Open CV(Used for face detection). Yolo v4 (used for object detection).

Benefits of the Project

Mask recognition and face mask detection system is  suitable for supermarkets, retail, healthcare, public buildings and more. For all entrances. Efficient and reliable.

We will be building software that will detect if a person is wearing face mask or not and it will also detect distance between all the peoples in a camera frame.If any of the SOPs is not being followed then the system will generate and alert through a speaker to inform the people to follow Sops.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

It will be a complete software system. A desktop-based application will be developed for this project. This system will be used in shopping malls and other places where SOPs should be followed.

This system will have three functions. 

To detect object.

To detect face mask.

To detect social distancing.
