Project Summary

In the event of significant loss of mains power or total blackout, emergency standby generators are used.

Important data, potential damage to electrical equipment and huge amount of disruption may result if generators are operated manually. That is why it is essential to design a system which monitors the incoming AC mains supply activate the standby generator when mains fails and make an automatic electrical transfer of load from mains to generator. When mains return, shuts down the generator after suitable cooling run. For this purpose we will fabricate a system which is microcontroller based to monitor and control the switching and also control the fuel consumption of generator.

Project Objectives

  • To study the existing ATS and AMF Systems.
  • To design Switching system of two sources through Electrical Interlocking.
  • To design ATS system and AMF system.
  • To develop and analyze hardware model of the proposed system.
  • Compare proposed system with existing system.

  • Complete study of Electrical Interlocking and design an Electrical Interlocking System.
  • Detailed Study of ATS System
  • Design hardware of Electrical Interlocking
  • Experimental work with developed hardware model
  • Detailed study of AMF System
  • Design hardware model for AMF System

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • The proposed system is Microcontroller based ATS and AMF system.
  • ATS system will do switching  and AMF will control the fuel consumption through the Fuel Valve.
  • Microcontroller will sense which supply is there and will do switching according to that supply and if generator supply is there then it will also control the fuel consumption according to the load.
  • The system will do switching according to preferences set by microcontroller.
