Enhancing local irrigation system using IoT
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe economy of many countries depends on agriculture. To achieve the best quality, it is important to focus on some vital characteristics such as the appropriate amount of water supply and a suitable schedule for irrigation of crops. Irrigation is a constant challenge in the agriculture industry. Under-watered crops can wither and die, wasting all of the time, money, and effort that went into growing them. Over-watering fields can lead to increased soil erosion. This project looks into providing software solution to the irrigation department. Data from different sensors connected to Arduino will be collected and sending it to the irrigation department. Based on the data, decisions will be made that which area in the agriculture land needs irrigation. These features make these project a sustainable option to be considered to improve the agriculture and irrigation efficiency.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of this project is to develop a system that solves most problems related to irrigation and agriculture such as controlling and saving water. Increasing agricultural production using small quantities of water, minimize manual intervention in finding soil moisture with increasing watering speed. All these features make the system sustainable option to be considered to improve the agriculture and irrigation efficiency. The goals of this project is to provide a software solution for irrigation department that allows the users to monitor all information and manage the device immediately from a website.
The objectives to consider are:
- Making the irrigation system more efficient.
- Overcome the shortcomings of the warabandi system
- Developing a website for the irrigation department.
- Optimize water consumption.
There are few important technical steps which we can choose according to our experience and success of objective. These are as follows:
- Will connect different sensors to Arduino.
- Will connect GSM module to the Arduino.
- Program the Arduino to have an interface with the sensors.
- Will develop a website to show data coming from the fields to the users.
- Data will be send using GSM module
Smart irrigation systems are changing the way we landscape. It is no secret that in recent years, American consumers have turned to “smart” devices. After the popularity of the smartphone skyrocketed, we found a way to put “smart” in front of nearly everything, ranging from smartwatches to smart doorbells. The same trend is beginning to follow the landscaping industry.
Automated sprinkler systems have been around for a long time, but they are now smarter than ever. Smart irrigation systems will save you much more money in the long run than most other smart devices. If you reside in southern California, here are some reasons you should consider using to revamp your irrigation system
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe expected deliverables at the end of the project are:
- Prototype of the design along with central server.
- A well-compiled and comprehensive report.
- Submission of the project output to a peer review journals/conference.
