Development of a simulated model of stab resistant body armor
Stab resistance armor is a fundamental defensive equipment to guard the human body against injuries from stabbing and it is a widely accepted need for police, military and security guards. It is difficult to quantify the magnitude of the force used in a stabbing incident by an alleged assailant. The precise objective evaluation of the severity of stabbing is very important for quantitative understanding of stab wounds and for scientific assessment of the effectiveness of stab-resistant armor. This project will focus on developing a simulated model of prototype body armor by testing and analyzing the mechanical properties required by the software and formulate a system that can be compared with results acquired from manual lab testing.

Simulation will be done using Ansys software. Simulation works using Finite Element Analysis. It uses the finite element method which is a numerical technique that cuts the structure of an object into several elements that reconnects at points called nodes and the collection of these nodes and elements are called mesh. Each of these small elements is subjected to calculations, with these mesh refinements combining to produce the final result of the whole structure. Ansys Mechanical finite element analysis software is used to simulate computer models of structures, electronics, or machine components for analyzing strength, toughness, elasticity, temperature distribution, electromagnetism, fluid flow, and other attributes.
Our aim is to test and develop an armor that can reduced over-all weight of the armor, have better wear-ability; this can be achieved by utilizing inherently flexible materials that also satisfy our armor requirements. It should endure all impact with zero penetration of armor and protects all areas covered by offering zero puncture of human body and then simulate its numerical model using Ansys software. A simulation model helps to build animations which visualize the physical structure and makes it easier to compare the numerical model.
