Project Title

Design Simulation and Fabrication of Horizontal Axis Hydro kinetic Turbine

Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject Summary

´Hydro Kinetic turbine:

“Hydro Kinetic turbine is a blade rotor that rotates about a horizontal axis in a response to flowing water.”

´It is typically designed for Uni-directional constant flow of current such as in rivers/canals.

´Working Principle:

The small, rolling drum-like device called the water rotor. The turbine is mainly driven by the drag force on the concave side of the turbine blade exposed to the flow.

´As the flow hits the concave side of the advancing blade, a pressure difference is created across the surface of the scoop, which results in a drag force that makes the rotor spin.´

Industrial related project:

Since electricity is a basic need of life more than 1billion people suffers from its shortage in the world.

´Pakistan have 1 of the largest canal system. Indus canal system have more than 500 branches. so it is suitable.

´

Project Objectives

Objectives:

  1. ´ To Design the rotor and the stator of the hydro kinetic turbine on the SOLIDWORKS OR CREO.
  2. ´ Import the designed geometry to the ANSYS and simulate to get the results
  3. ´To find more efficient blade design in order to achieve the required efficiency.
  4. ´To model the design and validate it through the experimental results.
Project Implementation Method
  1. First of all we are going to design our project. simulate it on ANSYS and get the analysis results.
  2. Later, we will fabricate the prototype model of it and place it in the water tunnel to get the experimental results.
  3. then, we will compare the results through the theoratical ones.
Benefits of the Project
  1. ´Since electricity is a basic need of life more than 1billion people suffers from its shortage in the world, so we will produce it on large scale in order to get free electricity.
  2. ´Pakistan have 1 of the largest canal system. Indus canal system have more than 500 branches, so it is very suitable in Pakistan.
  3. ´Due to non grid free of cost electricity, it has a huge potential in industrial market.
  4. ´It is an environmentally friendly non pollutant energy source.
  5. ´It can be man handle and only require maintenance.
Technical Details of Final Deliverable

After the completion of our project, we are able to show the physical model of our turbine and the theoratical calculations

i.e. Solidwroks geometry, Simulations on ANSYS etc.
