Project Title

Control of Solar PV-Wind Hybrid System

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

The increasing demand of electricity and depletion of renewable resources attract the researchers, consumers and investors towards Renewable resources. Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind are omnipresent and environmentally friendly. The renewable energy sources are emerging options to fulfill the energy demand, but unreliable due to the stochastic nature of their occurrence. Hybrid system combines two or more renewable energy sources like wind turbine and solar system. As the response of solar is faster than the wind so there arises a problem of coupling to dc bus. This affects negatively on the performance of whole hybrid systems especially on the variable loads switching. In this project, a hybrid energy system consisting of two sources: wind turbine generator and photovoltaic solar, without energy storage is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Each subsystem switch is controlled in order to supply consumers’ loads via an inverter. The objective is to obtain an acceptable (compromise) system response and to make it more compatible. A control strategy of those two switches is proposed to adapt the inputs of the sources to the output of the DC bus. Results have been obtained in terms of voltage response stability and global compatibility achievement.

Project Objectives

The focus of this project is on interaction of solar and wind plant without any storage device.

To develop a control of environment friendly hybrid system

To develop a solution for coupling of solar and wind hybrid system

To develop response for performance of variable loads.

Project Implementation Method

This project divided into 3 main phases.

The 1st phase is to obtain skeleton and depth data from solar-wind hybrid system, these data can be implemented on the MATLAB.

Secondly, PV solar will be boosted with DC/DC booster and wind turbine output will be rectified by AC DC converter.both outputs will be given to dc bus .in third phase Variable load will be given to dc bus.

Benefits of the Project

Project will help to get electrical power in those areas where there is a unreliable electricity supply.this application will help to get distributed generation concept.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This project compromises of MATLAB software, for the control of Hybrid System.solar PV and wind plant will be coupled on the dc bus by using MATLAB.A hybrid system is modeled and simulated.the types of loads are used such as linear, non linear and then comparative study will be made.two adapters switch will be used for dc output of both sources.the end delivery will be a compatible solar PV-wind hybrid system will be obtained.reponse will be consistent of voltage stability, accuracy and precision.
