Design of microwave bandpass filter using microstrip technology

Project Area of Specialization

Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Project Summary

In this project we have proposed a design for microwave comb-line filter working at 2.45GHz using a simple classical technique, in which N-1 transmission zeros (TZ) can be implemented with a filter of order N. The presence of the transmission zeros can be possible with inductive and capacitive couplings among the resonators. The flexibility of the TZs will be included to make the design more efficient. Various further application models will be additionally discussed. At last, it is critical to take note of that this comb-line filter consists of the planer geometry with planer wave port working at 2.45GHz of central frequency. A prototype of the filter will be fabricated. The measured results will be compared with the simulated ones to prove the design technique.

Project Objectives

Our project objective is to design a band pass comb-line filter with the micro-strip technology at 2.45GHz of central frequency with wide fractional bandwidth.

Project Implementation Method

The designing software tool - High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) is used to design this band-pass filter. Wideband filter will be designed using HFSS. After designing the filter, getting the desired simulated results, the prototype will be fabricated. Measured results will be obtained and compared with the simulated results.

Benefits of the Project

The microwave filter operating at 2.45 GHz will have applications in

•             Wireless base stations

•             Cellular communications base-stations

•             Cellular radio handsets

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Micro strip filter prototype will be fabricated and measured results will be compared with the simulated ones. MATLAB code of the Transmission and return losses will also be provided for the future work.
