Metamaterial-based absorber has gained the attention of the electromagnetic communities due to their wideband and tunability. The present invention discloses a metamaterial-based broadband radar absorber for stealth applications operating from 4 GHz to 18 GHz with more than 80% absorptivity. The present absorber is polarization-insensitive and shows large angular stability from 0º to 55º. The metamaterial-based broadband radar absorber structure, according to the present invention, is simple in structure and easy to process with a thickness less than one-sixth of the working wavelength, and greatly reduces size and costs. Using Chip resistors in the unit cell has enhanced the bandwidth by energy dissipation through resistors compared with the reported absorber. The proposed absorber is novel and would be useful for the stealth applications

Project Objectives

We have the objectives as follows:

  1. To achieve wideband absorption using single layer meta-surface to make a simple structure;
  2. To use the proposed wideband absorber for radar absorption which is useful for stealth applications;
  3. To patent the present invention
Project Implementation Method

CST microwave studio software is used for the simulation of the unit cell. After getting the proposed results from simulation, we will fabricate a prototype of the absorber. For the fabrication of the prototype, we will use CNC Milling Machine. Chip resistors are also used in the prototype for the purpose of power dissipation, which plays an important role in absorption. For the soldering of resistors, we will use soldering station “Kada 850”.
