Project Summary

This is a dual-purpose Trolley. Which can be used as a normal trolley as well as on the Stairs for transporting heavy loads.  Our stair climbing Trolley is a type of trolley fitted with tracks (toothed belts)  so that it can be pushed or pulled up or down steps on a stairway. A motor powered with chargeable batteries is used with toothed belts that will help in moving heavy loads on stairs with very little effort. 

The user will just hold the trolley and all the climbing work will be done by the motor and belts.

Project Objectives

The main objective of this project is:

  • To design all parts of the trolley i.e. frames, wheels, bearing, and assembling them with modeling software Solidworks according to specific dimensions.
  • Structural analysis on an entire trolley with ANSYS workbench software, that delivers suitable results based on parameters such as deformation, von-mises stresses according to the load applied, on a component such as wheels, frames, base, etc.
  • Fabrication of trolley based on above analysis with accurate measurements to withstand a maximum load.

Project Implementation Method

  • First we have studied the literature available online about the trolley.
  • Then after Selecting a specific design we have started sketching the trolley in modeling software and then analysis of the entire working model will be done on Ansys, so we can check whether our design is safe or not.
  • Then we will make a cost estimation for trolley components
  • Then planning and designing for fabrication procedure to be performed.

Benefits of the Project

  • This Trolley can be used for Dual purposes, we can use this as a normal trolley as well as on Stairs to carry heavy loads.
  • As in the case of many public buildings, where the goods cannot be transported by lift, we can use this Trolley to carry heavy loads.
  • This will minimize manpower, even for heavyweights to move from the stairs.
  • Carrying heavy loads manually can cause a lot of health issues (knee and backbone pain).
  • Nowadays all manual works are transforming to automatic systems, to go side by side in every field we are making an electromechanical Stair Climbing Trolley.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This is a foldable trolley with an extendable handle, which can be adjusted according to the length of the load, Safety belts will hold the load in place. 

•The trolley consists of two frames both made up of Aluminum Alloy. Which makes it lightweight.

•The fabrication will be done using design and modeling sketched in SOLIDWORKS software.

•Analysis is done on the trolley using ANSYS to find stresses and deformation to find out the failure criteria on the entire trolley setup. 

•A motor to be installed with track belts to carry the load on stairs, that motor is powered by a rechargeable battery.
