Design and development of virtual baby for infant incubator
Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject SummaryA virtual baby is a particular set of conditions created artificially in order to study something that is possible in real life and for training purpose
PARAMETERS AFFECTING THE BABY INCUBATOR
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Heart rate
- Blood pressure
CONDITIONS OF INFANT
- Normal condition
- Hypothermia
- Hyperthermia
- Neonatal jaundice
OBJECTIVES:
- To design a virtual baby model for baby incubator for paramedical staff training and community
- Secondary objective is to focus or highlight on such parameter i.e. Temperature and humidity in infant incubator and check the respective response according to the condition.
In our project we focus the three conditions of infant i.e: NORMAL CONDITION, HYPERTHERMIA, HYPOTHERMIA, JAUNDICE.
- On the basis of these conditions we will show respective responses on baby’s face and w.r.t this parameters i.e: TEMPERATURE, HEART RATE and BLOOD PRESSURE will be shown on LCD.
- In NORMAL CONDITION, baby laugh or in the moderate condition.
- In HYPERTHERMIA, baby starts crying, tears and sweating will appear, face turns to red in colour and becomes hot.
- In HYPOTHERMIA, baby starts shivering, face turns to blue in colour and becomes cold.
- In JAUNDICE, baby’s face turns to pale yellow in colour.
Our project based on two modes:
- MANUAL MODE
- AUTOMODE
- In MANUAL MODE, by the change of temperature and humidity we manually regulate the heart rate and blood pressure and the parameters i.e: TEMPERATUR, HEAT RATE and BLOOD PRESSURE will be shown on LCS and respective responses will be shown on baby’s face.
- In AUTO MODE, temperature and humidity and switches under the saturation probe and blodd pressure cuff are connected together when the switch is ON, then module start sensing temperature and humidity and w.r.t this the heart rate, blood pressure and temperature will be shown on LCD.

- Can be used at medical universities to teach medical student
- Can be used to train paramedical staff so they can provide better service to treat infant.
- Can be used in hospitals, NICU to observe various parameters and enhance physical comfort for infants while treatment.
We will present a virtual baby for infant incubator that will facilitate students, doctors, paramedical staff and parents as well. It display Temperature, humidity, blood pressure and heart rate of infant incubator and show response according to the condition. Thus create a virtual environment that a baby experienced in various conditions. For example: normal condition, hypothermia, hyperthermia and Jaundice.
The hardware includes Arduino UNO, Temperature and humidity module, Peltier module, Vibrator motor, Led/bulbs, Speaker, Keypad, LCD display, BP cuff and Saturation probe.
The system will solely base on Arduino programming and the respected results will display on LCD screen.
The aim is to build a low cost virtual baby is to increase the awareness in hospitals, public and paramedical staff which will aid to reduce the death ratio of infant due to lack of awareness.
