Design, Analysis and Prototype Development of a Fire Extinguisher Drone with Fire Detection System
The aim of this project is to improve the life on earth by protecting the environment from disaster such as fire. Fire can cause harm to both living things and non-living things. Affecting them by burning(man made items) and destroying their natural habitat (animals and nature). The prosposed project makes use of a drone which has a hexagonal configuration in terms of its design. It utilizes different sensors for fire detection. Such as a thermal sesnor and an optical camera for live images, alternatives have been considered for this project such as use of a LiDaR/Ultrasonic sensor, but due to financial constraints and allocated budget, usage of these sensor might not be feasible. The drone would be integrated with GPS for tracking of the location and for drone stability, it would also detect fire and track its location and give an alert to the user. IMU sensor and GPS would be fused together for drone's flight control and measuring of latitude and altidue so that the user can fly the drone within safe limits. Furthermore, in order to extinguish the fire as soon as drone locates the affected area, a claw machine attached to the drone carrying fire extinguisher ball would be used to extinguish the fire by positioning the drone vertically above the fire and dropping the fire extinguishser ball, as soon as the ball comes in contact with fire it self-activates, and chemicals powder would extinguish the fire immediately.
The objectives of the project are to :
1- Not contribute to the climate change and reduce global warming( fire trucks causes pollution and therefore reduce usage of these trucks would contribute to the clean environment).
2- To save and rescue humans, animals and nature by not letting the fire spread in forests, public places and other possible places where fire can make its way, through early detection and quick response service.
3- To help industries become technologically advanced by utilizing this drone within an industry if a fire breaksout to extinguish fire, instead of waiting for the tradtional ways of doing it.
4- Proving an easy to use fire extinguisher drone for everyone incase of emergencies which is cheap and reliable.
The Project would compose of following methods.
1- 3D modelling for the feasibility of the design through animation.
2- Analysis of the complete drone and its components to see whether or not the drone's materials are suitable for the flight and takeoff weight and whether it is within the factor of safety.
3- Prototype development; after the modelling and analysis are done, the drone would be given a physical shape, so as to test it against the proposed idea. Whether it fulfills the requirements or still need improvments.
4- Testing, the final method would be pre-testing of the protoptype and put it through the limits before it's ready to be introduce to the evaluators.
Benefits of the project are as follows:
1- Providing Faster Quick Response service by fire fighting department, fire truck takes a lot of time to reach the affected area and by the time they reach the most of the damage has been done already.
2- Reduce risk of fire spreading.
3- Reduce risk to the life of the fire fighter, since this way he would not be engaded physically in extinguihsing the fire.
Final Deliverables
1- 3D modelled design of the drone with claw machine.
2- Weight analysis , design and CFD analysis.
3- Fully developed and tested prototype.
