However, people with the right credentials must handle it to ensure that the production is smooth day after day.
Project ObjectivesThe main goal of this project is to develope a fully automated CNC machine which is capable of designing very precise designs which were impossible with handcrafting.
Project Implementation MethodThe first step in desigining was to make simulatons and program the micro-controller. Simulation was made using PROTEUS software. We used MACH 3 micro-controller as is it widely used in automation industry. Apart from that MACH 3 is user friendly and easy to program. Its operating software is open source and easily avalable. After successful design of simulaton the next step was to move towards hardware implementation. The major problem that we had to face was to Interface the microcontroller with the motor and sensors. After a lot of struggle we were finally able to overcome this by interfacing in different steps. First we interfaced the controller with motor and then used sensors to get the feedback from motor to micro-controller. After succesful hardware design we callibrated the axis according to our G Code. Finally we tested our machine by drawing different designs.
Benefits of the ProjectAs compared to handcrafts, designs made by CNC machine are cost effective and more accurate. With this mahine we can reduce the manforce and use modern technology in order to design with precision and efficiency. As handcraft were very time consuming we can use this machine to save time as well.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableMain input used for machine is 220V AC with maximum current of 3A. Stepper motors were used which can rotate upto 1.8 degrees and consume only 12V DC. Micro-controller uses an input of 5V. The spindal used is of 1KW and the machine covers an area of 5 feet out of which 4 feet can be utilized for designing. The speed of the spindal used for carving can reach uptill 18000 RPM.
