DC Motor Speed Control Trainer
The DC motor is an main part of equipment in many industrial applications requiring variable speed and load characteristics due to its easy controllability. There are two different types of control loops, current controller and speed controller. This DC motors are widely used in the industries because of its versatile characteristics which have contributed in the extensive use of the DC motor in the industry. Variable speed DC motors used in machine tools, electrically operated vehicles, Temperature controlled furnaces working with electric heaters, uninterrupted power supply systems are few commonly seen application of these requirements.
Power Electronics is a branch of electronics engineering wherein various techniques related to this conversion and control are studied.
In this project we are going to design a Trainer for power electronics student to study the basic involved in power semiconductors and power inversion and conversion techniques. And students will be able to perform most of experiments related to power electronics using the trainer.
Working with this trainer will help student develop detail understanding of various power semiconductor configuration along with wiring skills.
And we will inteface our trainer with labview, so we can easily observe the working of our trainer.
The main objective of this project is to design and implement DC motor speed controller that will use for helping power electronics students in the basic learning power electronics, Power semiconductor and power inversion and conversion techniques.
We will divide our trainer in three panels (parts).
1) DC Voltmeter and DC ammeter panel: This panel is designed to monitor DC voltage and DC current. Two independent meters with 0-300V DC and 0-5 Amps DC are provided on this panel and the meter terminals are brought out on shrouded terminals.
2) Instrumentation Power supply cum multi-channel DOM panel: Electronic circuits used in SCR actuator panel needs power supplies and AC synchronizing signals. This panel accepts 220/240 volts AC input.
The circuit employed is a conventional step down transformer and linear power supply +/- 12 volts and variable 7-14V or fix 24V (optional) are derived along with a low voltage AC SCR synchronizing signal. Fuse protected AC 230V with 3 independent on/off switch are also provided on 3 pairs of extra sockets. These serves as AC input to 2 or 3 SCR actuator panels.
Another block on this panel is a 6 channel digital display master. This accepts 0-20V input and is calibrated to display speed in RPM.
3)SCR actuator panel: This panel houses SCR half controlled bridge with necessary cosine firing circuit. The phase angle control pot will produce output voltage from 10V dc to 200V dc.
DC motor speed controller that will use for helping power electronics students in the basic learning power electronics, Power semiconductor and power inversion and conversion techniques.
To maintain or control the speed of motor we are using techo meter sensor as a input for feed back circuit which then manipulated according to desire input or set point.The Torque –speed characterstic, Torque-Current characterstics through PID ,open loop , cloes loop can be display on the Digital display, DC Voltmeter and DC Ameter. Output is user interface and run on real time on labview simulator.
