Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe cotton dust in an industry is formed when cotton is being processed in order to be made for fabric in textile industry. The following dust contains of different size and type of hazardous particles, such as ground-up plant matter, fiber, bacteria, fungi, soil, pesticides, non-cotton matter, and other contaminants which are able to damage any person’s health and exposing of worker’s in that specific area where cotton dust is spread is led to many respiratory problems, such as cough, phlegm, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, chronic bronchitis, and byssinosis. One of the famous disease which caused by cotton dust is Byssinosis which is an occupational disease that affects workers involved in processing fibers of cotton, flax, and soft hemp .It is caused by inhalation of dust particles present in work areas where these vegetable fibers being processed. Many researches have been made regarding it and it concluded that there should be a kind of ventilation technique which could reduce the dust and also to invent a kind of technique which can monitor the areas where cotton dust is at peak.
Project ObjectivesThe purpose of this project is to identify the problem of cotton dust that is the major cause of lung disease in textile industry
The project consist of a respirator that can measure the dust (cotton) and generate alarms at various stages of dust accumulation.
Record of keeping all the dust activities of each day and generate the report at the end of each month
Project Implementation MethodThis project will be tested in the closed environment of textile industry. The following project would be placed at the departments where cotton is being manufactured which are spinning,weaving , ginning , open and mixing and carding. This way in these depratments it would be able to test the cotton dust in µg/m3 using dust sensor PM2.5 till PM10.With the help of respirator and sensors, it will be able to calculate the percentage of cotton dust particles using customized user interface.
Benefits of the ProjectThe implementation of the project will be able to aware unhealthy environment for the employees to work in the derpartments where cotton dust is at majority. Its main goal is to measure the quantity of dust, analyse the amount, and then aware the employees. This way it would be able to create a safer environment for the employees to work there.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe technical details of the final project are as follows:
1) Sensors which are used in the following project would be able to detect humidity, temperature and dust.
2) Respirator is specifically designed for inhaling the cotton dust.
3) Graphical user interface is displayed on sceen showing the monitoring and analysis of cotton dust
4) Alarm will be generated to aware employees.
