Majority of the cost of electricity of any household is typically dominated by the air conditioner use. Solar energy based air conditioner operations require large initial investment that is not feasible for middle and lower middle class residences. As inverter type air conditioners are becoming common, we note that these can allow a lower capital cost solar AC solution by converting them to solar inverter AC. Inverter AC converts the grid supply into DC and then further conditions it to speed control a BLDC motor. The idea proposed in this FYP is to feed a suitable solar power plant DC output to the rectified DC bus in the inverter AC control card.

Project Objectives

To develop a PCB Hardware and  controller Software to implement a suitable DC-DC boost converter for mixing of grid and solar power for an Inverter AC

Project Implementation Method

The idea proposed in this FYP is to feed a suitable solar power plant DC output to the rectified DC bus in the inverter AC control card through DC mixing. The Project is mainly focused on designing a suitable DC to DC converter to ensure that the mixed input compressor power is firstly drawn from the solar source and any remaining power needed is drawn from the grid.

Benefits of the Project

The key advantage of the proposed project is to avoid the cost of the inverter power circuit since that is already available in an Inverter and significant decrease in the electricity bill with much lesser capital costs because solar power generation is not available for use by the Inverter AC.
