Project Summary

Codex is an android mobile library management application. The aim of this project is to fulfill the need for a digital library in our area where no such technology is there as of our knowledge. Codex will provide a powerful and smart tool for a library where admin can easily manage the book information. The main feature of this project is the QR code scanner which can be used by librarian to fetch book information easily if whether librarian wants to add a new book, edit book details or response to the borrow request against the user. it will have a separate account for students, faculties and non-faculty staff. In addition, it will have a feature where the user downloads the books in pdf format on a single click. The scheduling feature is also there to facilitate user by providing notifications about news policies or book returning remainder and user schedule their activities to get the remainder. It will be a complete library management tool to serve the smart and better future where everyone has a library in hands.

Project Objectives

Most of the universities are using a traditional approach which is time-consuming and wastage of the resources. In this modern era, our mobile application will replace the traditional approach and fulfill all the requirement of the librarian and all participants. It will have so many additional features to make the management tasks as quick as never before. Every single feature that the physical or typical library management system has to offer will be available in a single tool.

Project Implementation Method

For development purpose, Firebase Database and Android Studio will be used. Android Studio is the official IDE for developing Android applications and is consist of XML and Java Programming Languages. We will be using the Spiral model for Codex which is a very effective model for large projects. We will study old library management approaches and newly implemented library management systems to find their drawbacks and will divide the project development in modules after completion of each module unit testing will be done for performance check. Updating or modification of modules will be available as needed after the user’s review. A process of regression testing will be there to keep project work flawlessly.

Benefits of the Project

Codex will be a smart and portable working tool to reduce the physical work done by the librarian and will provide an easy and user-friendly environment to get overall library information in a single digital platform. The system will provide complete Android-based library tool that will able to access thousands of books in a quick and easy way. The system will facilitate user by searching for books, provide downloadable pdf books, complete information about borrowing and returning books, recent activity logs and an alarm system included to inform the user about schedules.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Codex is a complete native android application. The smartphone having an android version greater than 2.3 will be able to run this application. As it is a cloud-based application so the phone must have reasonable access to the internet to use this application. We will provide an APK (Android Package Kit) which can easily be installed in any smartphone having android version 3.0 or greater. The application itself has a user guide where the user can easily understand how to use the application.
