CARRIER AIDED PROTECTION OF TRANSMISSION LINES THROUGH DIFFERENTIAL SCHEME
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryTransmission lines are a vital part of the electrical power system, as they provide the path to transfer power from generation to load. In Pakistan, transmission line operating voltages are; 132kV, 220kV and 500kV. These are interconnected and requires reliable operation. Reliability of a transmission system mainly depends on the protection system. Transmission protection systems are designed to identify the location of faults and isolate only the faulted section . The key challenge to the transmission line protection lies in reliably detecting and isolating faults compromising the security of the system.
In our project we are using the differential protection scheme in which we operate the circuit breaker on the basis of impedance comparision of different zones. The key operation is the communication between the controllers of different zones and commanding the relay in case of any fault.
Project ObjectivesFollowing are the objectives of project:
- Designing Protection scheme for the transmission lines.
- Implementation of different types of fault to counter them.
- Achieving accuracy in detection of fault and it's timely clearance.
- To improve the Relays' delay and calibration for quick action in case of surge.
- Zonal relays coordination through wireless communication.
Project Implementation is performed in following steps:
- Submitted the project proposal.
- Made the schematic diagram.
- Componants purchase and their testing.
- Implementation of single phase operation of relay.
- Case study of the delay calibration.
- Implementation of the three phase relay coordination.
- Detection of type and location of fault.
- Wireless communication between controllers.
- Decision making on the basis of impedance ratio.
- Display it on lcd through master controller.
Benefits of the project are the given below:
- Complication are reduced by using wires communication medium.
- Fault detection and communication is faster.
- Protection system fault is reduced.
- Pretection of power system components be improved.
- Maintence of wireless system is easier as compared to wired system.
- Data login for online switching and maintence.
The final project will contain the following features
- Types of fault like three phase fault , line to ground.
- The location of fault in which is occured.
- In which zone the fault is occured.
- Tripping of relays on the basis of difference impedance values.
- Delay calibrated isloation of faults from the healty system.
- Wireless communication between controllers.
