Project Title

CARRIER AIDED PROTECTION OF TRANSMISSION LINES THROUGH DIFFERENTIAL SCHEME

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

Transmission lines are a vital part of the electrical power system, as they provide the path to transfer power from generation to load. In Pakistan, transmission line operating voltages are; 132kV, 220kV and 500kV. These are interconnected and requires reliable operation. Reliability of a transmission system mainly depends on the protection system. Transmission protection systems are designed to identify the location of faults and isolate only the faulted section . The key challenge to the transmission line protection lies in reliably detecting and isolating faults compromising the security of the system.

In our project we are using the differential protection scheme in which we operate the circuit breaker on the basis of impedance comparision of different zones. The key operation is the communication between the controllers of different zones and commanding the relay in case of any fault.
