Camera Calculator is an app for math learning; it can read and solve problems by using the camera on your mobile device. To solve a math problem, point the camera at your math problem to take a picture and it will show you the solution within seconds. The user can capture a camera image of a mathematical expression and just see the result. This application is free and so much helpful in learning mathematics in a fun way. Camera Calculator breaks down every math problem into simple, easy-to-understands steps so you really understand core concepts and can answer things confidently. The app also offers a scientific calculator where you can change the numbers within the problem and then see how the app changes the answer and its steps.                                                                                                                        

Project Objectives

 My goal is to develop an application that bridges the gap between technology and the traditional pen and paper approach in an intuitive manner.

It's a simple camera app with handwriting recognition software installed and its basic purpose is to understand the problem through the camera and then provide an instant step-by-step solution to the listed problem.

This App performs mathematical operations by taking a photo of the mathematical question written on paper.

Project Implementation Method

Camera Calculator app is based on optical character recognition through a mobile phone camera and a math problem solver system which recognizes, solves and shows the solving steps for printed and handwritten math problems. OCR is used to convert any kind of images into machine-readable text data. App contains a tap on a button to have a look at the steps.                                                                                           

Simple point your camera towards a math problem and it will magically show the result with detailed step-by step instructions.                                                                

Once the problem is correctly captured by the app, it would provide a detailed step-by-step solution along with the answer. The app scans the problem and displays a stepped-out solution within seconds. The step-by-step guide is beneficial for the students to understand more efficiently. The app also offers a scientific calculator where you can change the numbers within the problem and then see how the app changes the answer and its steps. Here one can tap on a button to have a look at the steps which are to be taken to solve the problem and calculate the answers within seconds.                                                                                                             

Benefits of the Project

Mathematics especially is a subject which scares students a lot. Now the older methods of hand written calculations on heavy exercise books can be smoothly replaced by this hand held app. No need to ask teacher or parents to solve my math problems. This application is free and so much helpful in learning mathematics in a fun way Camera Calculator breaks down every math problem into simple, easy-to-understands steps so you really understand core concepts and can answer things confidently. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The app uses advanced OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology developed by Micro blink in order to read and recognize both, handwritten and printed characters of a particular problem.OCR technology is used to convert virtually any kind of images containing written text (typed, handwritten or printed) into machine-readable text data.                                                                                                       

This project can be undertaken by the implementation of the OCR scanner in calculator so that it solves mathematical problems. There's also a calculator for entering problems manually.
