Locust Attack Defender
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryLocust swarms devastate crops and cause major agricultural damage and attendant human misery—famine and starvation. They occur in many parts of the world, but today locusts are most destructive in sustenance farming regions.
Today the foremost common methodology used for the management of a pest is the use of pesticides. A chemical substance or the mixture of chemical substances used for killing, avoiding, repelling or mitigating pests are known as pesticides which affect plants and human as well by interrupting the organic process and hazard for global warming.
The core idea and purpose of this project is to produce a smart system that could detect the locust army attack and quickly the system generates and emits a high-frequency sound (ultrasonic) and also generate warning alarm in the form of notification in the cross-platform application. Also have features of real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity & wind speed/direction.
We are specially designing this technology for agriculture crop safety.
It will divert the direction of Locust Swarms which are in the range of the crops. The ultrasonic sound affecting the Locust will only be a burden for them and will not affect the crops. Not only the cost of pesticides would be saved, but labor to keep away the locust would also be reduced. While keeping global warming as our first priority, this process will keep the process organic which affects us (Humans) the most and plants as well.

Project Implementation MethodA project may be divided into four major phases as follows.
Design Phase:
The system includes a camera for the identification of locust swarms and also the birds. It also includes the transducers, ultrasonic sound generator circuit, and the sensors for temperature, humidity and wind speed/direction. The complete system will be monitored in the application. The power source of this system will be supplied by a battery charged by the solar panel.
Implementation Phase
In hardware, we will use a raspberry pi as the main processing unit of the system. It also includes a camera, transducers, ultrasonic sound generator circuit that consists of the 555 IC and the other different ICs and also the sensors of temperature, humidity and wind speed/direction.
In software, we will implement the Python language for identification and the latest UI toolkit Flutter includes the Dart programming language for the cross-platform application.
Testing Phase
We will test the implementation of our project on Agriculture Lands by real-time locust identification and the automation of ultrasonic sound generation which forces them to fly away. And also, the real-time monitoring of temperature and humidity that all the details will be seen on the application.
Evaluation Phase
We will evaluate the results of our project by providing hardware and application demonstration. So, the user will come to know the exact details of every feature.
Following are the highlighted features which include:
- Wind direction/speed.
- Humidity
- Temperature
- Identification of Locust / Birds by using Machine Learning
