A standing wheelchair is developed in this project to provide the disabled with ability to transfer from sitting to standing positions. To control an object by voice gesture and tilting of head has always been something that we see as imaginary, fun and fictional. Every year, around the world amongst billion, 250000 to 500000 people suffer a Spinal Cord Injury. 59.5% of spinal cord damaged persons are considered patients of quadriplegia. Quadriplegia, also recognized as Tetraplegia, is paralysis began by illness or injury that outcomes in the partial or full damage of usage of all the four limbs and upper body. Our project Voice Controlled and Head Gesture Controlled Wheelchair focuses on aiding the motion of handicap and quadriplegic patients by providing them a wheelchair which they can use either by voice or by rotation of their head. This project focuses on developing a sense of independence to the sufferers of severe paralysis and other bodily challenged people who are dishonorably underprivileged of an acceptable typical life.
The project is divided into three main parts; Remote controlled, voice controlled system and head gesture controlled system. Observations reveal that the accuracy rate of this proposed Wheelchair is 70-90 % which was above expectation. It is a Three-In-One Wheelchair that can not only move with remote and voice but can also operate by head motions. Thus, presenting a piece of work which has both options which can be switched according to the condition of patient whether the user/patient desire to move it by tilting head or due to severe condition, moving wheelchair through voice.
The basic objective of the project of making and building a cost effective, instinctual and applied powered wheelchair that cannot restrict the ability of user to converse while operating the wheelchair has been achieved.
The first objective is to make the standing wheelchair mechanically controlled by devices designed to have self mobility with the help of the user command. This reduces the user’s human effort and force to drive the wheels for wheelchair. The buttons had channels to move Forward, Reverse, Left and Right. And to make the wheelchair to stand straight and then move also. The user should make appropriate adjustments based on the buttons in which position he/she wants to move. The standing wheelchair is also provided with obstacle detection system which reduces the chance of collision while on the journey. Observations reveal that the accuracy rate of this proposed Wheelchair is 85-95% which was above expectation.
Now the second objective is to make the wheelchair to be controlled by the head movement, tilt sensors have been used. The placement of tilt sensors has been done on the head mounted cap that the patient will wear. Tilt sensors will detect the movement of the head The signal of tilt sensor is served to an encoder circuit and then the signals are sent to wireless transmitter circuit which is also placed on the cap. Lastly, at the receiver end, a wireless 3 receiver module receives the signals, decoder makes them understandable and then drives an amplifier that use relays to control the motors. Observations reveal that the accuracy rate of this proposed Wheelchair is 70-90 % which was above expectation.

The project is the necessity of medical industry and medication fields which are yielding patient with having severe disabilities spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy , multiple sclerosis, stroke, ret syndrome, post-polio syndrome and more .The challenge to this would be first to make it user friendly in a couple of ways for a completely disabled person which might not even use his hand gestures to control it and for a half disabled person that might use it easily. The automated standing wheelchair is to be developed to control the motor rotation of wheelchair based on Voice Recognition and Heads movement
of physically challenged person that is unable to stand and move. In order to facilitate the disable people for their independent movement.
Major operators responsible for this market’s flourishing are physically disabled people, increase in spinal cord injuries, accidents and aged individuals.
This project is an attempt to provide a better living to people suffering from paralysis and major injuries, and contributing in this growing market, a piece of work which will prove to be a source of happiness and a beginning of a beautiful life, for people who have lost hope.
Our PROJECT addresses community’s that part of portion which is suffering from disabilities in the developing world they do not have equal and adequate access to education, employment, or medical care. Their condition compounded by a lack of financial and technological resources, imposes a burden on family community and finally on the state. So to design such standing wheel chair which will be cost effective for the medical communities, NGOs which are willing to increase the standards of health in these concerned departments.
