Autonomous Squad for Billion trees Plantation
Recognizing the challenges faced by many countries in development, we must also be able to take the opportunities to use novel technologies. This idea of drone and seed dispense for reforestation and restoration has a high demand in the field of science and nature. Hence, the idea of a seed planting from a pilotless aircraft vehicle to solve problems of desertification in these ecosystems. We believe it will definitely set new trends in science and ecology. We need to break misconceptions and operate high-end technologies to help communities and countries grow towards development.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Addressing the problem of deforestation, current methods of reforestation are time-consuming, costly and require a lot of effort. This project will be helpful in the areas where there is minimum or no access to people. This problem is very substantial but very limited research work has been done for the solution to this problem
BACKGROUND:
In the 1940’s 33% of the area was covered in forestation. As time passed there was a drastic increase in the rate of deforestation which led to only 5% of the area covered with trees in 2015. Recent studies show us that now less then 3% of the area is covered with trees and forests.
OBJECTIVE:
The main purpose of the project is:
The following methodology will be applied for the proposed project:
The old method is very time-consuming because at first the staff will check the area, analyze it and if they agree then the next procedure of planting trees will be done. The plants which are plated by hand needs to be two years old, this means not only this would be expensive but also will be a time-consuming process because plantation needs to be done at a very faster rate.
Therefore, to minimize these major problems our project, planting trees using UAV’s is really helpful and far more effective than the previous method. Firstly, it does not require a lot of labor and staff, a small team will make your work done. The only cost that is required is on the autonomous vehicles which are a long-term cost as these birds can be used for a larger period of time. Secondly, planting though drones are very efficient and less time-consuming. Efficient in a way it can plant more than 60,000 trees a day operated by just two operators. The drones work by flying across a specified area, collecting data about soil conditions and determining the prime locations for planting. They then fire biodegradable pods, filled with a germinated seed and nutrients, into the ground, hence less time consuming as planting by hand was taking a lot of time in the planting of trees.
the final product will consist of a swarm of two drones controlled by the terminal in the Linux operating system using ROS(Robotics Operating System).seeds will be fired on the desired place while watching the surface through the camera using image processing on run time.
