Automatic solar panel cleaning System
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryOne of the major issues that the world is facing now a days is energy. Solar power has become a source of renewable energy and application of solar energy should be enhanced. Solar PV panels are used for to meet our energy requirements. The one of major issue of using solar panels is to clean panels when dust is accumulated. Incident light from the sun blocks due to dust accumulation. It effects the efficiency and working of solar panels and reduces the power generation capacity of panel. The self-cleansing system for PV panels has been designed by controlling dc gear motors, microcontroller programming and sensors. For solar panel, self-cleaning technology can protect the solar cell and increase efficiency of electricity produced. Rolling brushes with solenoid valve moves on solar panels and clean the dust particles present on PV panels. Movement of brushes control by the programmed microcontroller. This method is effective for cleansing of PV panels.
Project ObjectivesObjective of our project are as follows:.
- To clean the solar panel autonomously
- To make the system intelligent using microcontroller so that whenever efficiency falls due to dust or temperature, cleaning system activates
- To avoid the manual work.
- To avoid dust associated problems on solar panels.
-
To improve the solar panel efficiency
-
To reduce Labour Cost
First of all we have a 12 volt supply which provides voltage to Day light sensor . If it is day then it will give signal to cicuit . Then 12 v goes to buck and boost converter. Buck converter set down the 12 V to 5V . and this 5V gived to limit switch , Dust sensor , temperature sensor, Relay and Micro controller . Boost converter setup voltages to 24V and provides it to Solenoid valve . Supply 12 v gives to H bridge and DC gear motors . Dust sensor and temperature sensor connect to pic controoler and also a potentiometer is connected to PIC as an Efficiency controller , these are following inputs of pic and the output of PIC are DC gear motors which involve Gear motor and Brush motor. We have two systems .one is cleaning and other one is cooling System
Benefits of the ProjectThese are following benifits of our project.
- It provides autonomous cleaning as well as cooling thereby improving not only the efficiency bu also the life of solar panels.
- It has commercial value; the system can gain commercial value if properly advertised.
- Reduces man power or physical exertion.
- It is cost effective, we employed annualized cost expression and performed life cycle cost analysis; the system proved to be economically efficient against loss of power dus to soiling.
We have three Different parameters to operate our project . First one is dust sensor, when Dust sensor sense Dust on panels it will give signal to the Controller. Second one is Temperature Sensor , when temperature is above to a limit then it will gives signal to PIC . Third one is Current Sensor which is used as efficiency measurement . If any of them gives signal then operation would be done. we Define to ends on frame . one is home and other one is End .when Supply turns ON, Machine will goes towards home. then on getting Signal from any off our define parameters, then it goes towards End and stay there for 2 seconds and then comes back towards home. ON dust sensor or efficieny Sensor , Cleaning and cooling system both will operate but on temperature sensor only cooling system will operate .
