Project Summary

The main problem which people face while buying furniture like Sofa, Single Bed, Double Bed, Dressing Tables etc. is that they don’t exactly know how will it look at their Home, Office, School or another desired area. We have come up with an idea to integrate everything and give access to the user to get everything relevant in one place. The user will be able to select the desired product and by using Augmented Reality function the user can place the camera at their desired place where the product will appear and can be seen how it is looking at that place (the models will be static and will not be added dynamically. If a new model is needed, it’ll be made and rendered and releases in an update) and the user could easily decide whether to buy it or not. Finally, the user will be able to checkout and pay the showroom/shop owners via card or by cash, however they may please. This will all be done through a mobile application. The significance of this project will be substantial because we haven’t found any application that tackles this issue and provides ease to the user, regarding this problem. We hope to change that with this app.

Project Objectives

The outcome of this project will be that the people who spend hours and hours on finding the right furniture that suits on their desired place will be able to do it all from comfort of their homes and also see how it looks in their home before purchasing

Project Implementation Method

AR Ray Casting is a Unity technology that makes Plane Detection possible. The phone’s camera provides a view of the real world and thousands of virtual rays are casted on the surface that is in front of the camera, vertical or horizontal and calculations are made for the angle, position and rotation of the rays and that is how a real world surface is translated into the AR space.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

As the system testing focuses on checking the entire project like one system and integrating all different modules together.
We made our project in different modules and worked on them separately.
1. Plane Detection
2. AR Ray-casting
3. Populating product list
We tested Plane Detection in conjunction with AR Ray-casting as they cannot function without each other and the object was being placed successfully.
