Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThis is an IoT-based monitoring system designed to monitor the estrus cycle of cows. This system is composed of Internet of things (sensor devices), a cloud system, an end-user application (android application) and innovative techniques of Machine learning (data measurements and analysis algorithms).
An electronic sensor device will be attached with cow’s body that will monitor the activities of the cow on the bases of cow's motion, body heat, jumping behavior, voice frequency and daily food intake and will send the data to the cloud system. Machine learning algorithms will be applied on the data received from sensors in the cloud environment to convert the data to organized information to make the decision about the cow’s estrus cycle. This processed information will be available on android application running on end user's mobile/tab. User will login to this Android application to manage the record by using an admin panel.
Project ObjectivesDetection of cow’s estrus cycle for insemination is still considered to be a significant problem in dairy farming. There are many changes in cow behavior indicating estrus, like standing to be mounted by fellows, sniffing the vulva of another cow, flehmen, licking, or resting with the chin on the back of another cow. Early estrus detection can be supported by an IoT-based monitoring system.
Unfortunately, day-to-day monitoring of cows conditions is difficult, especially on large farms where employees do not have enough time to observe animals and detect the first symptoms of estrus cycle. Once an estrus cycle is missed it comes after 21 days. The late insemination will generate low production. We are going to solve this estrus detection problem along with reduction of the human resources and overall cost.
In the implementation phase of this project. First of all, we will connect all the sensors with the raspberry pi and send the cow's motion, height, and temperature data to the cloud and processed them by machine learning and show all the data on user mobile application.
Benefits of the ProjectIn this modern world, dairy farming is an attractive business that can be supported to improve the economic conditions of a country. Gaining exact insemination time will result in an increased profit to the farmer which will directly increase the economy of country.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final deliverable product is a wearable device. Every cow wears an Animal health monitoring device attached to the collar. or any bodypart. The device contains the sensors (heart rate sensor(MAX30100),Movement sensor(GY-25),body temperature(MLX90615),accelerometer(ADXL)).The collected data will send to the cloud storage (Microsoft Azure) by using raspberry pi and at the cloud storage(Microsoft Azure) the collected data processed by machine learning algorithms(Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes).The predicted values and alerts about the estrus cycle show on the user android application (Android application in java).
