Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject Summary"AI-based Signal Light for Railway Gate" is a project to use AI for informing the drivers about the upcoming train, even before the drivers reaching the railway gate. This project is specially designed for the railway gate of Gujrat railway station and it will be deployed in the fully operational form, at the same railway gate.
There are two passages available at the discussed railway gate. First is the shorter way which passes through the gate. Another one is longer but it passes over the gate, through a flyover. People usually prefer the shorter-one but if the gate is closed then they have to wait there or they have to return back and chose the longer path, through the flyover. The main problem is that, returning not only takes time but also creates a lot of traffic jam. This problem can be solved by updating the drivers way earlier before they are entering the shorter path, in case the railway gate is closed. In this way, drivers will be able to choose the longer path without being experiencing the hassle of reaching the gate and finding that this path is closed.
Our proposed solution will be equipped with a couple of cameras that will be using AI to detection if the gate is going to be closed or already being closed so that the traffic can be routed through the other way around. In case the cameras detect the blockage of the shorter path, warning light (similar to traffic signal light) will be turned on and it will be visible from such a distance that drivers can take the other route, without being reaching at the gate and finding that it is closed. Both cameras and the warning light will be operated through a battery backed by the solar panels to make it running without any external intervention. A custom stand will also be made to hold all of this apparatus well above the ground to avoid any human intervention.
Hence, this project will not improve the quality of life for the surrounding inhabitant but also reduced the traffic jam which very common at the proposed place. Furthermore, the same deployment can also be replicated at the railway gates with similar situations, across the country.

Project Implementation MethodWe will use the opencv for image processing and tensorflow for machine learning. Our cameras will detect the railway gate and railway signal using opencv and will use tensorflow to decide if the warning light needs to turn on or not.
Most of the hardware will be third-party but the algorithm will be implemented by us. More implementation details have been mentioned in the milestones below

Technical Details of Final DeliverableA self-sustained apparatus of AI and camera-controlled warning light which is used for routing the traffic to the alternate path, before it reaches the railway gate and finds that it is closed. In order to make it human intervention free, the whole apparatus will be placed at enough height and also will be connected with battery and solar panels to allow the system to run in an autonomous manner.
