Project Summary

Industry 4.0 is known as the fourth industrial revolution in which advanced technology like the internet of things, data analytics are used to make the industry more efficient. Industry 4.0 refers to such industrial units that are integrated and find the hidden pattern from the industry data to make it more reliable and reduce the possibility of error. With the quick growth in digital technologies, most development and research domains are entailed in the human activity recognition system. The activity recognition system will help the industry to automate the monitoring system and help the industry to analyze the performance of the employees. The activity recognition system can also allow the industry to find the hidden patterns from the activities of employees. These hidden patterns will help the industry to train its employees well and prevent their employees to do mistakes. The proposed system will supervise and monitor human activities in production and inspection processes in the Industries in i-e Textile Industry. Like if a person is inspecting a product during the inspection system will check whether the person is following standards of inspection or not. The system is designed in a way that the managers or officials will be able to watch the results of activities recognized by the system on their smart devices. There are 4 actors Admin, supervisor, security person, and employee who will interact with the system.  The system will be work in such a way that a Jetson device will be integrated with already installed security CCTV cameras in such a way that Jetson Units will continuously recognize human activities and sent results to the Server. The server will decide the action, and then send alerts to Supervisor, security person, and admin. The trained model is deployed in Jetson Unit. The managerial (Admin) officials will be notified automatically if any violation is recorded by the system. Admin/supervisor will be able to take action on misconduct.

Project Objectives

Our main objective is to automate the supervision and monitoring of employee’s activities in the industry and report the officials about any misconduct by the employees. The activity recognition system evaluates the activities and performances of the employees in the industry, according to the specific policies and rules of that company.

Project Implementation Method

The activities will be monitored using security cameras. The cameras will record the human activities performing activities during production or inspection processes. These security cameras will be integrated with the Jetson device. This device will be connected to the server where all results will be saved. Jetson will get activities to video from the security cameras. AI model deployed in Jetson will recognize the activities from video frames. Jetson will send the human activity recognition result to a server from where the data and notifications will be sent to smart devices to watch the results of the whole recognition system.

Benefits of the Project

CCTV surveillance is used in Pakistan to monitor the activities of people and to control crimes. To control the street crimes and traffic violations in Lahore, the government started a safe city project in which CCTV surveillance is used. CCTV surveillance is also used in factories, shopping malls, airports, banks, and bus stops for security purposes, monitoring of employees, and ensuring certain rules, regulations, and standards being followed by the employees. The surveillance system did not detect or recognize any criminal or any other activity of the people. The employees are being hired to monitor the activities of people by using the surveillance system. There are chances of human error in monitoring people by managerial employees. The cost of the organizations also increases due to the managerial staff to monitor the people and the surveillance system. The accuracy of the monitoring of people also compromises due to the possibility of human error.

Due to non-intelligent video surveillance and with the increasing number of cameras, continuous monitoring by humans is required which increases the cost, and monitoring of employees or people becomes difficult and challenging. Therefore, an autonomous surveillance system is required which can recognize human activities and identify the activities which are not following the specific rules, sequence, regulations, or standards set by the government or industry.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

1) Four Types of Software Applications would be included in Final Deliverable.

  • Admin Application
  • Supervisor Application
  • Security Person Application
  • Employee Application

2) Machine Learning would be the Final Deliverable that would be Integrated with the jetson device. 

3) Security cameras and Jetson devices would be required for real-time deployment of the model and to evaluate/test the system on real-time data.
