A Hybrid Renewable Energy Based Fast Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles (EV)
The aim of this project is mainly to design A Hybrid Renewable Energy based fast Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicle. As this technology reduces dependence on fossil fuels and decreases greenhouse gas emissions, electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more common. Solar energy is a viable alternative source of renewable energy. Flexible photovoltaic cells can be used to turn solar energy into electricity in the planned design of Hybrid Renewable Energy based Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicle, and we can install solar PV in the car park too that can be used to charge electric vehicles as well as provide power to the national grid. Such stations could be advertised to be situated along a highway, fuel stations, parking of our offices and in house.
The aim of this project is mainly to design A Hybrid Renewable Energy based Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicle, which is low cost due to renewable solar energy and so is environment friendly. It reduces the CO2 emissions as compared to the conventional grid-based EVs. We’ll be using Lithium Battery for energy storage purposes.
In a developing country like Pakistan, more than 25 Million vehicles are running on the road and emitting carbon dioxide. This is the reason that more than 5 Million (9%) people die each year due to air population globally and in Pakistan 40 million cases of acute respiratory infections and 28 000 deaths/year. Mostly, this all happens due to the usage of fuel using vehicles. Keeping in mind these tragic statistics and with the motivation of giving back to society, we’re aiming to design an environmentally friendly and eco-friendly charging system for solar electric vehicles which will be good for the economy of the country.
Pakistan electric-powered vehicle policy 2019 units EV adoption aims and includes incentives for customers and manufacturers. It also focuses on the development of a nationwide charging infrastructure to ease the adoption of electric vehicles. EV wants to sell 30% of the cars by 2030 and 70% by 2040. The announcement of the National Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2019 through Pakistan authorities is a step in the proper direction. It is a forward-looking step wished to deal with climate worries from developing transport zone emissions with unexpectedly rising vehicle ownership. Toyota, the world auto giant, for the first time signed an agreement on November 7, 2019, to enhance Electric Vehicles with BYD, the world’s biggest electric-powered vehicles manufacturer, with 44 flowers around the globe using 250,000 personals, with a turnover of $250 billion. The scenario will clearly alternate in Pakistan as well, with the Japanese organizations roll out their fashions with the aid of 2024. This all is really positive and an encouraging step for the entrepreneurs and investors. One more encouraging factor in electric motors manufacturing is the reduction in taxes from 43% to 11.25%. Past in last Year ECC has accredited the electric automobile coverage for 2three wheelers and trucks/Buses. It puts in vicinity incentives reduced tariffs and taxes on machinery, parts, and sale of those motors. The coverage for 4 wheelers is being deliberated and may be finalized rapidly. A leading British bran MG Motors has partnered with Haier Pakistan (MG HS partnership) in manufacturing of hybrid-electric car in late May this year. This was fully supported by the Pakistan Economic Coordination Committee, Ministry of Climate Change, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Finance Ministry.
In this project, we will be using two energy sources, one is through solar energy and another one is through the national grid. Solar PV shall be getting energy from the sun and shall be providing it to DC Fast charger and then to our electric vehicle (EV). In case, our Vehicle battery is fully charged, then energy shall be provided to our power bank passing through the step down bidirectional converter. After the full charging of the EV battery and the power bank, solar energy shall be provided to the national grid. We will be using Bidirectional DC/AC Converters for this purpose.
In the case, when we have no Solar energy, then energy shall be driven from the national grid. In case both solar energy and national grid energy are not available, we shall be providing energy to EV through our charged power bank. The schematic diagram is shown below in the picture.

For the fast charging purpose, we will be adopting Level 3 charging (which is also known as DC Fast Charging) which takes a low time for the charging. Different charging Algorithm profiles eg. Constant Current- Constant Voltage (CC-CV ), Linear decreasing current charging, pulse-based charging, etc are under study.

The government shall benefit the end-users by facilitating with no toll tax, no registration, and token fee, car financing on zero interest rate, charging station financing with zero interest rate, and no tax charging station investment and income. According to Geo News, the first National Electric Vehicle Policy 2020 will be presented in the federal budget under which in the first phase 30% of motorcycles, rickshaws, buses, and trucks will run on electricity while in the second phase small and big cars across the country will also run on electricity. According to a government official, by 2030, 5 to 10 lakh electric vehicles will be on the highways. The government will provide various incentives for electric vehicle manufacturing, under which goods for manufacturing can be ordered duty free, while sales tax for manufacturing will be waived.
We'll be delivering a fast-charging infrastructure in hardware and software simulation.
Moreover, we will be writing an IEEE Standard research paper InshaAllah.
