Project Title

3D Printer to Manufacture Customized Plastic Objects

Project Area of Specialization

3D/4D Printing

Project Summary

Nowadays 3D printer also refer as additive manufacture. It is use to create customize object, some object that are not available in market. By using this printer we can create easily.

3D printer are available in market but their cost are too high that universities can’t afford and also take too much time in printing objects, that’s why students loss on making new inventions. Students of engineering has to develop projects in their final year. These project requires customized objects. Students often get these object fabricated from outside market where they faced market restriction of ordering in bulk quantity. Bulk quantity results in increase of overall cost at one end, whereas bulk quantity is not needed except one or two pieces. Moreover, in the phase of R&D, design of object often changes which result in fabricated same object multiple times. And this consequently increases the cost.

To solve this problem we thought of making a printer that make it easier for the students who want to make their own inventions for their educational purpose or their research or their project in lowest cost.

We will use different techniques to decrease their cost by using less expensive components and working with efficiently. This project will be useful in universities.

Project Objectives

  • Create Customize proper objects.
  • Customize default 3D printing speed
  • Reduce the Cost of 3-D Objects
  • Easily avail cases for different Project.
  • Increase the global chain of customize product.

Project Implementation Method

The process of 3-D printing is the quite long and complicated. These process is given in 4 steps.
1. CAD
2. Monitoring
3. Microcontroller
4. MOSFET Driver
3-D Printable models can be created by using a Computer Added Design (CAD) software. CAD software has fewer error in model than other software. If the error occur in 3-D models then we can identify and correct the error before printing the 3-D object. The 3-D models which are created on CAD software that can be saved in the (STL). The STL file needs to be process with a piece of software called a ‘slicer’. Its converts the 3-D model into the series of thin layers and produces a G-code file which containing the instructions tailored to a 3-D printer. Then this G-code file can be printed with 3-D printing client software (which can loads the G-code, and uses it to give the instruction of the 3-D printer during the 3-D printing process).
The Arduino mega microcontroller is used to processing the instruction. The device supports the following high-level operating systems. It control all the motor and the all system and display LCD is attached with microcontroller.
The operating of 3-D printer need motoring with high accuracy and the best motor to do this function which is stepper motors. Stepper motors is an electromagnetic device that converts the digital pulses into mechanical shaft rotation. Advantages of stepper motors has low cost, high torque at lower speeds, high reliability and a simple they are a special type of synchronous motors which is designed to rotate on a specific number of degrees for the every electric pulse received by its controller.
Nema 17 stepper motor with MOSFET drive, which will be allows the motor to move in the both direction, since stepper motor is open loop system, higher accuracy component used in order to print in the specific object, so that MOSFET is used because it has a fast and frequently operation.

Benefits of the Project

  • 3D printing allows for the design and print of more complex designs than traditional manufacturing processes. More traditional processes have design restrictions which no longer apply with the use of 3D printing.
  • 3D printing can manufacture parts within hours, which speeds up the prototyping process. This allows for each stage to complete faster. When compared to machining prototypes, 3D printing is inexpensive and quicker at creating parts as the part can be finished in hours, allowing for each design modification to be completed at a much more efficient rate.
  • Print on demand is another advantage as it doesn’t need a lot of space to stock inventory, unlike traditional manufacturing processes. This saves space and costs as there is no need to print in bulk unless required.
  • Depending on a part’s design and complexity, 3D printing can print objects within hours, which is much faster than moulded or machined parts. It is not only the manufacture of the part that can offer time savings through 3D printing but also the design process can be very quick by creating STL or CAD files ready to be printed.
  • As a single step manufacturing process, 3D printing costs associated with using different machines for manufacture. 3D printers can also be set up and left to get on with the job, meaning that there is no need for operators to be present the entire time.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our project will comprised on 5 major steps

  • Printing Area: We will work on the working space of printing area in which we use hot end extruder for the filament heating and melting and then use printing bed for the printing area.
  • Dimensions: Then we will make the Structure of the machine then we will analyze the direction of motors. The operating of 3-D printer need motoring with high accuracy and the best motor to do this function which is stepper motors.
  • Controlling: Then we will connect the Arduino mega controller for the controlling and programing the printer.
  • Monitoring: Then we will attach the display screen for the monitoring.
  • Source: Then we will connect the supply for sourcing our project.

After that we will complete the development of our project. Then we will connect the hardware with computer and we will install the program and then test the hardware and start printing.
