Project Summary

This project deals with the problems of finding a hostel and avoids all the problems, which occur while searching for a suitable hostel. Identification of the drawbacks of the existing system leads to the designing of a computerized system that will be compatible with the existing system with the system which is more user friendly. We can improve the efficiency of the system, thus overcome the drawbacks of the existing system. Our idea is to facilitate the students who go for higher education from urban areas to different cities. While they do not have any information about hostels near institutes, we display and suggest to them all the hostels near institutes and the details of hostel rooms and expenses. This initiative may help them to pre-select the destination conveniently while sitting at home.

Project Objectives

• Hostel Suggestion: Through this feature, we ask users to fill a questionnaire including some details like their budget and the city where they want to pursue their studies. Based on their requirements we suggest to them all the hostels near universities, hospitals, and market details through a map.
• Hostel Guide: It manages:
• Accommodation details: To display rooms to hostellers. The details about total no of rooms availability, condition of rooms, budget, and the number of students in one room.
• Hostel timings: To displays the hostel entrance or allowed timings details.
• Mess timings: It shows all the details related to the food available in a specific time and also the opening and closure of the mess.
• Security: It is a most important issue while you are living outside homes, so we show the details related to security provided by the hostel and the security conditions of that particular area or city.
• Extracurricular activities: This allows administrations to upload all events, news, and arrange trips after each semester.
• 360 View: This feature is related to virtually representing the hostel or apartment view in order to show the inner or outer view of rooms to hostelers. It would facilitate any hosteller to see the room or apartment and can decide easily to select the desired one.
• Chatting: This feature is to facilitate users to communicate with hostel management in order to ask any query regarding admission, hostel details and location etc.
• User Experiences: With the help of this feature hostels can be improved through the experiences and feedback of hostel alumni. Each alumnus can give feedback individually which is displayed separately for user guidance regarding hostel selection. This system also collect feedback related to Hostelzweb and improves accordingly.

Project Implementation Method

The user directly interacts with the web portal by giving any input in return web portal display information to the user accordingly.  Web portal which is connected to the database in multiple directions means that we can also display the data from the database on our web portal and can also store or maintain all our records in a database. SQL server database is used to develop this web application. All the suggested hostels which include Guide, chatting facility, virtual tour of their rooms and user experience tab these all are shown on our web portal so that users can easily be aware of these functionalities. You can check all the facilities online in the application.

Benefits of the Project

• Future scope of our project is that not only students also workers, travelers, etc  got facilitated by the online solution we are providing.
• In future when students  need  hostels  for stay  they can easily book and see all important facilities on one platform according to their needs and requirements.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Asp.net MVC with entity framework and SQL server database have been use to develop this web application. For chatting we use SignalR and for front end development we are using Bootstrap and razor. JQuery JavaScript and visual studio tools have been used for development. For providing 360 view we use jQuery image viewer plugins like panorama viewer plugin to see 360 views (rotate or zoom image through different angles) of image dynamically on a web portal. The technique we used for suggesting hostels is that when student register itself there are some filters provided to him in which he mentions his requirements like budget, room type and all the facilities he needed for living in hostel after that list of suitable hostels are suggested to him that fulfil his needs so that he can check that hostels and then book a suitable hostel for itself. For updating records like if any student left in future, there is a proper account of hostel owner/hostel management who can manage all the details related to their hostel like updating availability of rooms, student’s record or fees etc time to time
