Water Managment System Using PLC
Water is the basic need of human being. The installed water supply system is very
old and traditional in which there is more labor work, wastage of water and it is also,
an unreliable system. Now a days, in urban area, water is one of the most important
resource and it must be utilized more efficiently. In traditional water distribution systems is (WDS) the billing is time based which
leads to careless use of water resulting in wastage of water. More over the leakage
detection is done manually by regular inspection. Our goal is to develop an automatic
water distribution system along with the ability of leakage detection to reduce the
water wastage. The billing is based on water consumed by a user and the leakage
is detected by comparing water supplied and consumed. The complete system is
Controlled and Monitored using PLC.
After studying the recent research and motivated by the problems in the existing
system. We are proposing a solution whose main objectives are as under follow:
1. Control and Monitoring of water reservoir and pipeline using PLC
2. Leakage detection System
3. Automatic Billing System
4. GUI with administrator having option to select or change the price
5. To Authorized access to GUI(optional)
The subsequent parts used in our project contains Laptop for Graphical User Interface
(GUI), Float Switch for detecting the level of water in the main tank, water flow sensor
for measuring the flow of water through the pipeline and motor pump to fill the main
tank. All this mechanism is control by a controller known as PLC.
Flow Sensor and float switch are our field devices that are interfaced with the
PLC. These field devices read the data and return back electrical signal to the PLC
for further process according the Ladder logic burned on the memory of PLC. On the
basis of Ladder logic, we detect the Water Leakage through the Pipe Line. And also
monitor the main water tank that whether it is full or not and actuate the output
device i.e. Motor Pump. By monitoring the water level in the main tank by using float switch we turn
ON/OFF the motor pump to fill the main water tank. If the lower level switch gives
the reading zero, then the motor will be turned ON otherwise it will remain OFF and
the process will continue to check the condition of lower level switch. After that we
check the condition of the upper level switch. If it gives the reading zero, then the
motor will remain turned ON and the process will continue to check the condition of
upper level switch. If the reading of upper level switch is high, then the motor will
be turned OFF and the process will continue.
A Water Distribution System for proper usage and consumption of water was devel?oped. The Level of water in main tank, the water flow from the pipeline system,
leakage detection, bill generation of water usage, all of this is monitored/controlled
through PLC and HMI. The HMI is easy and user friendly. The project concludes to
be great benefit for water consumption. The thesis provides the detail for the calibra?tion of flow sensor with PLC. It provides with theoretical and physical experiments
that were done in different conditions.
The water level controlling system works on the basis of Level switch logic. If lower
level switch is off the motor will turn on and the main tank will start to fill. When the
water level reaches the high-level switch then the high-level switch will turn off and
the motor will turn off. Similarly, when the higher-level switch is off and the water is
draining it means that the water level in the tank is low but it has not reached the
lower-level switch so the motor will still be off and when it the down to the lower-level
switch the motor will turn on.The simulation for the Main flow sensor is done the experiments have been carried out to check the flow of water at different time
intervals. In Ladder logic simulation we used Timer as a stopwatch to measure differ?ent flow in these intervals. The experiment suggests that the Consumer-1 is using the
water at different pressure for the first 10sec interval. And we carried the experiment
for different pressure after every interval.
The Timer is set at 10sec interval. The values after every interval will be triggered
the X4 which is the Main flow sensor
