Water Detection for traffic monitoring Using GIS
The project is Water detection, for which we use the image processing techniques using GIS data. Image processing is a technique or method to perform some operation on an image, we enhanced the image and then extract some useful information as we know we are performing a project on water detection so using image processing we can extract water information from roads and develop a solution to assist traffic. In our system input is an image and output may be an image or characteristics/features associated with that image that will enable the user to determine and make a decision either water is present on a road or not without being there on the location or monitoring the image in person.
The goal is to help a person who is unaware of the problem he/she is going to face upon the next turn, either it is a pothole, a muddy patch that can ruin the car, or a long uncomfortable traffic lane. Moreover, local management or municipal organizations can be largely facilitated in the maintenance and cleaning of any waterlogged area.
To provide a comprehensive solution we aim to develop a lightweight easy to use web-based tool capable enough to provide good navigational assistance in our daily traveling. In a broad view, the use of GIS can be very much enhanced by using image processing in solving the day-to-day problems of a common man so this project has such capabilities that can be harvested in multiple directions according to the need.
The project implementation is gradually done with the research work. GIS requires research and similarly, the concepts of image processing for this project require research and review for which the study of past work is done. Along with Image processing algorithms on the other hand require huge datasets and training of models based on these, we are implementing some models related to our research.
The final deliverables will be an application that will be able to facilitate the user in navigating through a specific location and get information about water on a specific route.
The core technology used will be python's image processing algorithm that will detect water. The input will be from a GIS source or any training dataset which will eventually enable our model to detect water effectively.
