Project Summary

Our project is focusing toward environmental issue. It will have multiple high-end features that includes determining Urban area in big cities like using satellite imaging, as we have observed specially in Karachi urban area is expanding like flood slaughtering tree and plantation which survived and thrived over a decade, here our project will explore the percentage of plantation upon urban areas, raising awareness of lack of plantation. Moreover, we came forward as a business with complete Mobile Application which will detect plants and also have a complete cart system to sell plants and providing information about these plants. Our goal will be to collaborate with NGO’s to plant more trees and to motivate our generation by arranging different campaigns.End goal will be creating a campaign like billion trees tsunami in Karachi and other cities

Project Objectives

Our main object includes:

  • To provide a platform that allows users to identify different types of plants and provide information about those plants.
  • Also providing pro’s and cons about those plants.
  • Another objective is to detect plantation in urban area to understand the percentage of plantation on that area.
  • To sell plants through cart system available in application.

Project Implementation Method

Implementing this project may include more steps, a calculated approach is defined below:

  1. Firstly, data collection will be in focus as this is data driven project, we will collect the data of plants including their labeled photos and related information which will be used in our plant detection module.
  2. Another type of data will be acquired next to detect plantation in urban area module.
  3. Next steps will include data cleaning and wrangling to fit data according to our needs. Further steps include using different types of machine learning models and deep learning models to get highest accuracy and select according to it.
  4. Parallel to this our application design will be building. Using best tools we can get for high performance of our application.
  5. Next would the biggest step integrating our model in our created application and get them running.
  6. Last module that is Cart system will be induced right after.
  7. In last testing of application and adjusting phase will start, adding removing features etc.
  8. Finally making our app live on google app store and other platforms.

Benefits of the Project

Our project will benefit a lot of users. The real-world problem that we focusing to solve is the correct identification of plants as it can cause big environmental problems.

Main benefit which it will provide is to raise awareness in people of Pakistan about the need of plantation in Urban areas as our cultivated plants which take few decades to grow are being slaughtered daily reducing trees everyday causing huge environmental problems.

As Karachi stand at 8th place in the worst air quality and polluted city in the whole world which is alarming and has to be in focus as in past years Karachi hit’s killing heat strokes.

When getting some types of plant People usually do not know:

  • What exactly they buying?
  • What are pro and cons of these plants
  • How to take proper care of them etc.

And it goes the other way to, peoples selling these plants also have no idea about them.

The biggest potential client of our project could be an NGO as they will use this software to detect exactly how much plantation is there are in a specific area and how much should be the percentage of plantation requires. They can also sell plants online as we also have proper cart system.

Another type of customer could be a nursery as it can help them quickly identify what exactly is some plant and response to their customers it will remove human errors and unsure opinion and lack of knowledge.

It will also target common people looking to have some knowledge before buying plants.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

It will contain an android application or cross platform application to identify plants and give respected information about them.

Application will also have option to detect urban area in selected area given by user.

It will also have a complete cart system which will sell plants.

Machine learning model will be developed in AWS and amazon SageMaker using EC2 instance and s3 buckets.

It will also contain with ml applied recommendation system, that will recommend related category upon user searches.
