Walking Assistance Exoskeleton
Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject SummaryIntroduction:
In this project, we designed an FSR (Force Sensing Resistor) based knee assistive exoskeleton using FSR sensors, wearable brace support suit, stepper motor, DC source supply, and a UNO Arduino which will help people suffering from knee joint movement to walk properly
Objective:
Our main objective is to give relief for people suffering from Osteoarthritis called degenerative arthritis, So that they could walk properly and it will be helpful to restore their lost freedom
•These Exoskeletons will help elderly people who face difficulties in walking.
•The bilateral motion of the exoskeleton will help people having lower limbs dysfunction and those who suffer from gait impairments.
•Moreover, this walking assistance exoskeleton can be used in the military where soldiers have to walk all day long on different un-even surfaces. It will reduce the metabolic cost and they can use that energy for other work.
Project ObjectivesObjective:
Our main objective is to give relief to people suffering from Osteoarthritis called degenerative arthritis So that they could walk properly and it will be helpful to restore their lost freedom
Applications:
•These Exoskeletons will help elderly people who face difficulties in walking.
We tested our exoskeleton on a patient who was suffering from one knee flexion and extension, after wearing our model he became able to walk properly and without any aid support. It was a great achievement of our goal.
Since our main goal was to make a person able to walk who faces difficulty in knee flexion and extension during the walk and to give them relief from a wheelchair and to give the individual complete independence.
•These Exoskeletons will help elderly people who face difficulties in walking.
•
•The bilateral motion of the exoskeleton will help people having lower limbs dysfunction and those who suffer from gait impairments.
•
•Moreover, this walking assistance exoskeleton can be used in the military where soldiers have to walk all day long on different un-even surfaces. It will reduce the metabolic cost and they can use that energy for other work.
FSR (Force Sensing Resistor) based knee assistive exoskeleton using FSR sensors, wearable brace support suit, stepper motor, DC source supply, and a UNO Arduino which will help people suffering from knee joint movement to walk properly without any aid of a wheelchair or any support.
Basically, we are using two approaches to do the whole working of the movement
1_Force prediction approach
2_Movement of the knee through linear actuation
Methodology:
Two FSR sensors which are to be connected below the toe decide the movement of the stepper motor and as the stepper motor is directly connected to the knee movement through a linear actuator. Whenever a person moves his toe forward the FSR sensor presses and gives a respective response to the microcontroller and the microcontroller gives a signal to the motor in this way motor moves the shank and gives a proper walk.
