Voice Controlled Smart Wheel chair
The Voice Controlled Smart Wheelchair is designed for disabled persons whose operation is controlled by voice commands. The wheelchair starts, stops, moves left, right, forward and backward based on the voice commands. The voice commands are input through a mobile phone. These commands are given to the microcontroller board using a Bluetooth module. The microcontroller starts, stops and moves the wheels of the chair according to the received information. In addition to voice, the movement of a wheelchair is also controlled by a joystick. The chair is able to carry a maximum weight of about 80 Kg and can facilitate the physically disabled person to operate independently with less effort.
The objectives of the project are :
The system constitutes of a mobile phone, wheelchair structure, microcontroller, and motors. The voice is input through a mobile phone which can be placed anywhere as per the user’s comfort. It can pick voice commands, filter noise and transfer the information to the microcontroller via Bluetooth. The microcontroller then receives the input from the Bluetooth module and operates the motors to drive the wheelchair according to the voice commands. Two motors are used to move the wheelchair. There are seven different instructions which can be given to the motors which include turn on, forward, backward, stop, left, right and shut down. In addition, the wheelchair can be operated by means of a joystick.
The smart wheelchair can be used by physically disabled and elderly people at different places like homes, hospital, airport, etc. It will facilitate them in moving independently in any direction without taking help from another individual.
