Project Title

Visualization Of Computer Engineering Components

Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject Summary

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that allows computer-generated virtual imagery information to be overlaid onto real-world environment in real time. It differs from virtual reality in that it doesn’t attempt to replace the real world. Today there are many different ways for people to be educated and trained with regard to specific information and skills they need. These methods include classroom lectures with textbooks, computers, handheld devices, and other electronic appliances. The choice of learning innovation is dependent on an individual’s access to various technologies and the infrastructure environment of a person’s surrounding. Although the physical world is three-dimensional, mostly we prefer to use two-dimensional media in education. The combination of AR technology with the educational content creates new type of automated applications and acts to enhance the effectiveness and attractiveness of teaching and learning for students in real life scenarios. We plan to make an application that can visualize various computer components and concepts so that the students of computer engineering can have a clear understanding of the subject matter. AR based demonstration can effectively educate the students and provide them with a richer understanding of the content.

Project Objectives

The general objectives of this project are:

-To create an interactive environment for students to explore different computer components.

-To bring abstract concepts to life.

-To achieve better results in education through visualization and full immersion in the subject matter.

Project Implementation Method

This project aims to develop an application to visualize computer engineering components using Augmented Reality. So, instead of reading theory about those components students can see it with their own eyes, in action. By targeting printed elements the application shows 3D models of a component and allows to interact with it.

Equipments/tools for this project:

Unity3D

Vuforia Engine (Database)

Blender, Autodesk Fusion 360 (for 3D Modelling)

Benefits of the Project

Whenever someone brings camera onto the image, a 3D model will be generated and relevant information in form of text or video will be displayed for that topic. For instance, in “Fundamentals of Computer Engineering (FCE)” Course, various hardware components that have become obsolete are still taught to students to make them aware about the history of computers, it is difficult for students to learn just through the images of such components therefore a 3D component will provide better understanding to students by increasing student motivation and helping them learn spatial structure and functions and giving them long-term memory retention of the topic. The beneficiaries of the project will be the learners and educators of CSE. Both the teachers and the students likewise can take control of the educational process through AR.
