Virtual Frog Dissection
The COVID 19 pandemic has had a significant influence on medical education across the world. With this virus causing severe damage to life and its aspects, the world is in the middle of a humanitarian crisis. As a result, there is no idea how this will play out in the future.
During the countrywide lockdown, all academic sessions are stopped to help in stopping the spread of the virus. It is high time to rethink how to give medical education while practicing social distancing in real-time lectures and discussions. In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are multiple moral, ethical, and controversial reasons to replace live frog dissection with virtual frog dissection.
To solve all these problems a solution was much needed. The proposed application focuses on converting the practical frog dissection learning model into a completely virtual 3D application where students can learn and become educated about frog anatomy. Getting a real life-like experience to understand and learn the whole dissection process without harming the amphibian animal species as well as voiding the moral, social, and environmental issues.
The targeted audience for this application is going to be intermediate pre-medical students, teachers, and anyone who wants to learn frog anatomy
Dissections are required in biology classrooms, and they are an important part of learning about the human body and the environment around it. Observing these organs and learning how they function within a single species enables students to have a better knowledge of how these systems function in a variety of different creatures, including humans. ”Approximately 10 million animals each year are dissected in classrooms”. Our project will mainly focus on the following objectives:
Our system helps to save frogs from being dissected. There are over 3 million frogs dissected every year. So, to prevent those frogs from suffering and immense pain they go through while dissection, we need this app which will be beneficial for both the frogs and students who want to learn. There are some methods by following which we can dissect the frog virtually.
This game is a simple yet a very effective idea that will target those students who suffer from any phobia of dissecting live frogs and those educational institutes which deem it necessary for the students to perform this process for educational progress and learning experience
The final deliverable of "3D Virtual Frog Dissection" will be a Desktop based application along with a documentation manual having all the technical details of the application. The application front hand is developed by using Unity-3D and the Organs are developed separately on Blender
