Project Summary

Artificial Intelligence based Facial Recognition Attendance System will be an automatic attendance marking system which can be installed on main gate of respective institute / organization. The system will use a combination of cameras connected to Raspberry Pi, which detect and recognize every person entering or leaving, note entrance time and exit time and mark attendance respectively. If some un-authorized person enters, the system will give an alarm and by the end of working hours, email notifications will be sent to the manager/ supervisor of the absent employee. All this process will be done in real time.

This project will be implemented using Raspberry Pi connected to a remote MySQL Server for data base. Administrator will be able to access data / check record via internet using any web browser. Face Detection and Recognition algorithm will be implemented using Python.

Project Implementation Method

The method of facial recognition captures real time image and stores it to the dedicated database. For data acquisition, it uses the embedded device called as Raspberry Pi because it has high handling limit in low cost. 

Our proposed system will use image processing with Viola Jones algorithm for face detection which uses modified version of “Haar Cascades” for detection.

Image Processing:

1. Visualization- Observe the objects that are not visible.

2. Image sharpening and restoration- To create a better image.

3. Image retrieval- Seek for the image of interest.

4. Measurement of pattern– Measures various objects in an image.

Hardware to be used will be Raspberry Pi, Integrated with IP camera, Connectivity modules and remote server.
