Project Title

Virtual Eye for blind

Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary Project Objectives

The entire project can also be made on a single jacket to avoid the car and can be worn by a blind and will drastically benefit the visually impaired people but will not avoid the fall therefore the proposed design will completely fulfill the objective. This device will help the blind to navigate without holding a stick which is a bit annoying for them. They can wear the device as a band or like a cloth and it can function very accurately and they only need a very little training to use it as it is quite simple, efficient and easy to operate and wear. All they need is a simple band sort of wearable to control the assistive car through gestures. This project aims to design a new concept of Arduino based Virtual Eye for the blind people. A simple, cheap, efficient, easy to carry, configurable, easy to handle electronic guidance system with many more amazing properties and advantages. It is proposed to provide constructive assistant and support for the blind and visually impaired persons. The system will be efficient and unique in its capability in specifying the source and distance of the objects that may encounter the blind. With the proposed architecture, if constructed with accuracy, the blind will be able to move from one place to another without others help.

Project Implementation Method

Blind stick is a similar yet an innovative stick designed for visually disabled people for improved navigation. The blind stick is integrated with ultrasonic sensor to detect obstacles ahead using ultrasonic waves. On sensing obstacles the sensor passes this data to the microcontroller. The microcontroller then processes this data and calculates if the obstacle is close enough. If the obstacle is not that close the circuit does nothing. If the obstacle is close the microcontroller sends a signal to sound a buzzer. The problem of the existing project is that it may easily crack or break, The stick may get stuck at pavement cracks of different objects and it even has a small surface are with only on single ultrasonic to detect objects only from one angle. The proposed project will detect the objects from all three angles and is only controlled through gestures thus, reducing the burden of carrying the stick every time. The car will detect the object or fall from a far end and the blind will get to know about the object or fall even before reaching there. By wearing the glove they can fully avoid the use of white cane and such other devices which is quite annoying.

Benefits of the Project

This is the first wearable technology for blind people which resolves all the problems of existing technologies. Now a days there are so many instruments and smart devices for visually impaired people for navigation but most of them have certain problems for carrying and the major drawback is they need a lot of training to use. One of the main peculiarity of this innovation is, it is affordable for everyone. There are no such devices available in the market that can be worn like a glove and can control the car through gestures and having such a low cost and simplicity. When used on a large scale, with improvements in the prototype, it will drastically benefit the community.
