Vibration Isolators based Energy harvesting Device for IOT Nodes
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryPROJECT SUMMARY:
"Vibration isolators (VIs) have been utilized to remove the overwhelming impact of machines vibrations.
They are classified into two categories:
(I)Isolation elements with coupled attribute of load supporting and energy dissipation for example elastic rubber and neoprene pads and so on.
(II) Isolation elements with less sufficient energy dissipations such as springs etc.
The initial category of the (Vis) have been used to extract the kinetic energy and transform into useful energy for example electrical energy.
This project is centralize on the model of energy harvester that is combine with the vibration isolator (VI) to isolate machine vibrations. It operates the kinetic energy of the (VI) with the host machine at resonance frequency.
After the theoretical modeling of (EH-VI), the device will be fabricated using cost-effective technique. For the demonstration of the EH-VI, the device will be tested in a real-time environment.
Project ObjectivesOBJECTIVES:
•Prototype of Vibrational Energy Harvester.
•Extract vibrational energy and convert in to useful power energy.
•Power up the IOT devices.
•Alternative power sources provide life to a battery which is used in remote sensors of industrial, commercial, and medical equipment.
•Remote patient monitoring, Torch, cellphone batteries, power bank, small power lights for camping.
Project Implementation MethodPROJECT IMPLEMENTATION:
We can make the Energy Harvester (EH), EH contains Shaker and prototype along with Oscilloscope and Function Generator for IN LAB characterization and for Real Time we can use generator. Shaker consists of speaker and amplifier which is for vibration. Prototype made up of magnet, neoprene pad, coils, nut & bolts. We can have implemented this EH in this way that our prototype is placed on top of the shaker. We can take the prototype as input which is connected to the oscilloscope for output. On the other hand, the amplifier is connected to the Function Generator. We can assign the different frequencies from function generator and can observe the wave on oscilloscope. From wave we can observe the values of voltages. Magnet is placed between the neoprene pad and the coil is rotate along the magnet when the shaker is on the magnet is move due to this the electromagnetic induction is generate and it also produces electromagnetic force(emf).
Benefits of the ProjectBENEFITS:
In order to understand why energy harvesting is important, imagine a very big bridge where many sensors are placed for structure monitoring. They should be energetically autonomous, small, light and capable of wireless communication. These requirements are very common today because of the hassle associated with wired and connectivity for a sensor. Of course, no one wants to change the batteries, either, because maintenance is a cost. Imagine being in a very large and wild area where no power lines are available or imagine having to insert a sensor inside a structure (e.g., a column made of concrete or under the asphalt) so that you cannot extract it to change the battery. The only economical way to power an electronic system for a long time in these situations is to use an energy harvester.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableTECHINAL DETAILS:
Passing through the process of implementation we can achieve the power upto mv which can used to operate Remote patient monitoring systems, Torch, cellphone batteries, power bank & small power lights for camping. We can also used this power for a industrial, commercial and medical process.
