In a country like Pakistan Energy is a big crisis and the best way to solve this crisis is to save energy. Not only save but also design and develop new technologies that save energy. Motors are an essential part of industrial application as well as in homemade appliances. 63% of motors usage is in industry. Mostly AC induction motors are used in industry. These motors have very high starting current because of which power consumption is increased. To reduce this current Variable frequency drive is used. Variable frequency drive converts constant voltage and frequency into an adjustable frequency and voltage. It is used to control the speed of motors by varying the frequency. Speed control of AC induction motor has enormous applications in industrial equipment. However, existing solutions are quite expensive. VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) is one of the dominating methods to control the speed of High power induction motors. We are aiming to design professional VFD for industrial induction motors with efficient and cost effective method. The system covers various fields of electrical engineering like electric machine, power electronics, and control systems and micro-processors etc.
The main objective of our project is to control the speed of motors by varying the frequency that will effectively help with power consumption and also enhance the life of the motors. We are aiming to design professional VFD for industrial induction motors with efficient and cost effective method.
Our project design revolves around controlling the speed of motors by varying frequency using the cyclo-converter topology for VFDs.Hardware used in our project includes Arduino Nano, Opto isolator, SCR’s. We are aiming to design professional VFD for industrial induction motors with efficient and cost effective method.
The main objective of our project is to control the speed of motors by varying the frequency that will effectively help with power consumption and also enhance the life of the motors. Our project has a lot of importance in the future work as it can be further improved in an extraordinary commercial product. A filter can be designed that can help us filter the harmonics that are present in the system.
